I am sure Mr. Toriyama has a nice deal of cash for himself.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Hell, I'd hope Toriyama is a millionaire in Japan. I make millions of yen myself each year, and I haven't created jack ;p

I would imagine he's got himself a nice pile of dough. I mean, everyone on this forum, keeps throwing cash at him. And, I know we're not the only ones. I'm sure he's pretty well off.

I hope he is. He deserves it. Plus lets not forget, Dragon Ball wasn't the only thing he made. He still has work to this day designing characters for games like Dragon Quest, and that something Blue game.

Blue Dragon.

I've come to discover that a good handful of his work has to do with Dragons...

Is Akira Toryima A MUlti Millionaire?
Well Akira Toriyama created one of the most popular video game series Dragon Quest. Along with some of the worlds most popular manga series Dr.Slump and DragonBall. He also has done a bunch of other stuff but just those three properties that were all created in the 80's are still very profitable to this very day. I'd say he's loaded.

He didn't create Dragon Quest, he did the character designs for it. :D

Considering I've read recently that a character design for a Final Fantasy game can go for around $10,000 American, I'm sure Mr. Toriyama made a bit off of Dragon Quest (which is more popular in Japan than FF), Blue Dragon, and Chrono Trigger.

No Toriyama did all that work on Dragonball and Dr.Slump for free. He did all the designs opn Dragonquest for kind words.

I've seen the kind of cash Oda makes for One Piece (I forgot the exact figure), so I'd say Toriyama is quite wealthy.

I make 250,000 yen a month as an assistant teacher, so I'd hope Toriyama's a multi-millionaire (at least) by now. Otherwise, he'd probably have a hard time supporting himself (let alone his family). :P

If you're talking about a successful manga-ka such as Akira Toriyama or Rumiko Takahashi, then yes they have made a good amount. We're not discussing some young, penniless artist trying to get their work noticed by the major Japanese manga publications here. As a matter of fact, I do believe Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan nowadays.

I know comic artists in the states make close to nothing. But I'm hoping if a manga turns into a franchise, the manga-ka at least get some royalties.

I'm hoping for a more authoritive answer here, as I've always been curious about this. What if he's really not even that wealthy? Dragonball made over 2 billion dollars including all merchandise, accoarding to Funimation's "Offical DBZ site". Does Akira Toriyama possess even 1/5th of that? If there was justice in the world, I'd say he should have at the very least half of that much...but we just don't know over here in the States, maybe not even if you lived in Japan too?

He's such a social recluse. You never hear about him. I'm sure he'd be content with just "never having to work again", if he had enough money to just live in middle class life... occassioally working with crews like Super DBZ or making other games to keep his money from running out?

He should be filthy rich, but I'm just not sure he is.

I've asked this question in these forums many a time and never got a straight answer. With all the licensing that goes on from a manga series, you would think that artists like Toriyama, Oda, Kishimoto and Kubo would be ROLLING in cash. It's very hard to tell since manga artist really seem to be quite reclusive.

On the subject of American comics artists. I really think that they don't get a chance at greatness like Japanese publishers give. I know some talented people in the field, and they don't make much... It's really a shame.

Todd Mcfarlane and Rob Liefeld are millionaires. They never created anything a third as popular as Dragonball. If I had to bet everything on whether Toriyama is loaded, I'm saying yes.

This is several years old, but still interesting maybe that Toriyama is not on this list, while Kuramada is on it, whose fame is mostly based on Saint Seiya. I can't imagine he would receive that much from the more recent Ring ni Kakero 1 anime series...
