Can you stand Goku's kids?
Can you stand Goku's kids, or do you think Trunks could have been the one who defeated Cell.
I like Goku's kids and I like Trunks too, But Gohan gets too much hatred and it makes me angry.

The topic-title reminds me of neighborhood gossip. XD
Well, if its any consolation, Trunks defeated Cell in his own timeline.
And yes Gohan does have some Mary-sue in him at that point in the series, but the Saiyaman stuff later on totally made up for it and (in my opinion) made him much more likeable.
I even like how the dub handled Saiyaman.

Gohan = Eh, he did what he wanted to do, and was actually kind of useful in life. Just not in his Dad's way. Should he have gone out and trained like 2 hours a day for 7 years? Yeah. That's my only complaint. It isn't his fault, though. He was just owned by Chichi his whole life.
Goten = He had this problem where he never did anything when he grew up.
Trunks = He never really trained as he got older, which basically ticked off his dad. His mom was happy with the whole "He's a CEO" thing.
Future Trunks = The only child that really amounted to anything once past the age of 18.

Gohan and Goten are probably my favorite characters, so the answer is rather obvious... XD
So Gohan isn't "I'm gonna kick your ass! Raaaaa!!!" compared to the rest of the Z-senshi, but... what's wrong with that? Just because it's an action show doesn't mean everyone has to be an athleet.
(... What's wrong with Cell-saga Gohan? He doesn't even whine that much... and then only when somene wants him to go against hs nature and kill things...).
Then there's Goten, who is just awesome. Until he reaches 18. Then I just ignore GT and the last episodes of Z and replace them with fanfics.
.
Meanwhile, Chibi Trunks is a douchebag. Umm.. he serves as a decent foil to Goten's Goku-ness?
And Future Trunks... umm... *shrug*. He's cool? Otherwise I just ignore him?

I never really liked Gohan and Goten, but I did like Gohan 'till the Freeza arc. After that he started to annoy me, but strangely enough I started to like him again when he went to High School. I never really liked Goten but that was because he never really did anything and I was always more into Trunks anyway.

No, I don't like Goku's kids. Gohan is an idiot savant who somehow still gets forced into being the hero even though he's shown over and over again that making him hero of Earth is like letting a poodle drive the space shuttle and Goten's so stupid it's a wonder he doesn't speak in grunts and hoots. I don't like Vegeta's kids either. Kid Trunks is an asshole without a cause and Future Trunks is ripped from a 13-year-old's Mary-Sue fanfic.
To hell with all of them!

No it appiles to when somebody doesnt like a new character, but are too stupid to make a worthwhile complaint.Rocketman wrote:Man it would be nice if people actually understood the term no longer solely applies to an author insert.Victator Supreme wrote:Man it would be nice if people actually understood the concept of a mary sue.
I never liked that Chichi held Gohan back. It would have been better if Gohan had embraced his Saiyan heritage. On the subject of Goten,i didn't like that he had insane amounts of power with no training at all. Little Trunks was okay, and Future Trunks is the shit.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
Oh sirrah, you do wound me.Victator Supreme wrote:No it appiles to when somebody doesnt like a new character, but are too stupid to make a worthwhile complaint.
Fine. Trunks is an idiot. His entire storyline is him making bad decision after bad decision, from attacking the Androids with a sword to fucking with Freeza's death, to not realizing that changing the past means the past will change, to attacking even stronger versions of the Androids with a sword after #18 just laid his much stronger dad out, to using a useless form of Super Saiyan.
Unlike Vegeta, Trunks never has a time where he is shown to have any tactical or strategic sense. Even candy-ass Gohan has better skill than him at fighting.

I don't forsee the problem. From his comments, he proves that he understands the definition just fine. If he was too stupid as you say, then he would have simply tossed out the typical, "Trunks is like so ghey."Victator Supreme wrote:Man it would be nice if people actually understood the concept of a mary sue.
And Rocketman, I was honestly getting worried there for a bit, but you didn't disappoint. I give this particular diatribe of yours 4 1/2 stars! Sorry I had to slash a half star off since you were late.

Basically a "perfect, flawless" character who usually has some relation to the main characters and has some horrible past but everyone loves her and main characters fall IN love with her...blah; I hate mary-sues.
Examples: See things like "Vegeta's long-lost sister" or "female saiyajin who just happened to survive the homeplanet's explosion and comes to earth to muscle off any of the main characters away from their family and friends." Note unlike OC's, Mary-sues come not to add to the plot but to usually hook-up with the main character of their choice.
Dbz Mary-sues are almost always saiyajin.
The male form is usually called a Gary-Stu or a Marty-Stu.

Mary-Sues are also usually nothing more than stand-ins for the story's author. They're basically a fanfiction phenomenon, where the author inserts themselves into a series' universe as a flawless character. Many people now use the term to refer to flawless characters in general, even ones that are part of the official story rather than fanfiction and aren't stand-ins for the author, but this isn't exactly correct.

Seriously though, I think the series could've done without these two kids. Well, at least without Goten. Having little Trunks in the series made sense since his future was already fortold. But why Goten, though? I never cared for his character. Maybe the creators thought little Trunks needed a companion or something.
