Is Budokai Tenkaichi 3 [PS2] a Dual Layer Disc?

Post by elchoaro » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:22 am

Hi everyone,

I'm very interested in purchasing Budokai Tenkaichi 3, but I have an old PS2 that cannot play dual layer discs. Fortunately for me, I am not much of a hardcore gamer. And I cannot really complain, since I found this PS2 in a dumpster.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is a single layer DVD, so I can play it no problem (yay!). Is this the same with Budokai Tenkaichi 3?

The very limited number of dual layer PS2 discs that I've seen have all been gold-colored on the non-label side, so I don't know if this gold color is a universal rule or general rule of thumb that indicates a dual layer PS2 disc. And I've never actually seen a Budokai Tenkaichi 3 disc.

Your help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Rock on DaizenshuuEX,

Yeah, that's what I thought. If Budokai Tenkaichi 2 was a single layer disc, then Budokai Tenkaichi 3 has to be a single layer disc as well.
Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

95% of PS2 games, especially the DBZ ones should be single layer.

The only dual layer games are Gran Turismo 4 and God of War I think.

My dvd player recently died, so I'm stuck using my Ps2 (which is ancient) and it's even currently crapping out on my DB dvd's, so I feel your pain.

The only dual layer games are Gran Turismo 4 and God of War I think.
And Xenosaga, and GTA:Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas, and... several others I can't remember the names of anymore. There's a fairly decent library of dual-layer discs. More dual-layers than there are double disc PS2 games and there's even a few of those.
old PS2 that cannot play dual layer discs.
Two questsions. 1) Is it an SCPH-30001 model? (check the tag on the back of the machine if you don't know). 2) Do you get a "Disc Read Error" when you try to load a dual-layer PS2 game? If so you should contact Sony that model (and a couple others, if you don't have SCPH-30001 you should check into it anyway if you're getting DREs) are notorious for them. So much so that Sony offers (ro did, not sure if they still are) free reapirs for DREs for certain models. All you have to pay is S&H (about $10, I think).

Thanks for your consideration Xyex.

Yes, it is one of those large-type PS2s that gives disc read errors for dual layer discs. That's probably why it ended up in the garbage. I assumed that Sony wouldn't give a damn about me because the model is so old and I have no proof of ownership. I think I'll call their support # in the off chance that they'll help me out.
