Aspects of Dragonball Fandom that Piss You Off
Hmm... For things not mentioned yet, I guess the kind of people who require justifications of why others like specific sagas, characters, movies, whatever - anything and everything.
Maybe I just like it. I don't need a reason to enjoy something.
And... I think somewhere along the way some people have forgotten that entertainment is supposed to be fun and, well, entertaining. Enjoy what you like, let others enjoy what they like. If you like the same things, have fun talking about it.

I hate mathematical-related power level arguments. Math is....not my favorite subject by a long shot.
I hate it when people lump dbz in with the pkmn anime series. They're two completely different animals. @_@
And I hate it when other series blatantly rip off specific aspects of db and dbz not for parody or homage's sake, but to get popular. Pimping your series by secretly riding someone's coat-tails isn't cool. Doing a gag-related shoutout because you love the show is.

It pisses me off when B-kun reads my mind. But I've said some of that stuff before (like two or three times just in the movie thread), and I guess I'll rant about it some more now.
The fandom is way too volatile and defensive. People go insane if you say something bad about one of their favorite characters, or their favorite actors, or their favorite DVDs, etc... Too many people just have no tolerance for negative opinions about something they like. I don't know whether it's just that some people are used to circle jerk communities where everyone agrees and those who don't are chased away, or if it's just general immaturity. But they need to get over themselves and learn to have some respect for other people. I'm more than capable of ranting and getting angry about relatively trivial things myself, but I still don't understand why some people don't even attempt to curb those thoughts, and just act like complete assholes.

Yeah, I second that. I also hate the dub vs. sub controversy. Can't we all get along and speak our opinions civilly before it degenerates to "Goku sounds like a homo". No, unfortunately not.Chuquita wrote:I hate it when people lump dbz in with the pkmn anime series. They're two completely different animals. @_@

This depends on where you are, really. I haven't really encountered very many fan communities out there that hate the new Season Sets as much as the Daizex community seems to. The vast majority of fans in America out there, love these things to death. Myself included. And yes, I know about the cropping, and the color bleeding, and really, this does not "ruin" anything.Kendamu wrote:A few things:
1) There seems to be some unwritten rule that people who own the DBZ Season Sets or people who don't hate the VIZ DB(Z) manga have to justify themselves in order to be accepted amongst the rest of the community. The thing is, this unwritten rule seems to have been established by a loud minority rather than the people who have made it possible for every DBZ season set to be within the top 20 on Amazon.com with Season 4 being #10 and it's not even due out until next month.
---
Anyway, the top five things I hate to encounter in the Dragonball fan community.
1. People saying that Japanese Goku sounds like a girl.
2. People saying that the original Japanese BGM is bad.
3. People who say the word "Japanophile", people who make an issue out of any instance of using the Japanese name instead of the Funi Name ("OMG, it's Hyperbolic Time Chamber, you nerd, not 'room of spirit and time'. Stop being such a Japanophile") God forbid we use Japanese names for a JAPANESE STORY!! Especially when A.) We've been using these names for years, B.) the Dub Name for them makes no sense at all, and is not an accurate translation, and C.) the dub name just sounds like total and complete crap.
4. People who freak out over tiny little things, like animation frames being cropped by like .001 centimeter and the color being slightly washed. (You know who you are,
5. People who have never heard Japanese Freeza before, or that don't think Japanese Freeza is the best thing ever, or those who try to correct me and say "It's spelled Frieza." I don't care if it's spelled Frieza offically, even in Japan.. Daimao spells it "Freeza" on the darn Funimatino DVDs... Viz spells it "Freeza" in the offical English translation of the manga. Freeza makes more sense with the pun of what his name is based on, and "Frieza" is way too feminine.
I also find it slighly ammusing that I had to bypass some kind of filter just to use the word Frieza.

I have to disagree. See FindKenshi's post above... XDKid Trunks wrote:Sebastian (SB) wrote:But its not really Dub vs. Sub. Its more like sub fans attacking the dub, and dub fans defending it (and themselves).Chuquita wrote:I also hate the dub vs. sub controversy.
What annoys me... when debates over timelines result in people yelling at each other.

Can I put that in my sig?
And Kid Trunks... You really victimized yourself. It's not like the dubbies are perfect angels who never make certain comments about Nozawa's Goku. (Which is kinda funny, because, as TripleRach once said in my chat room, "What is Schemmel, a bass?!")

Really? Because I see WAY more sub-bashing than people bashing the dub. I remember back when I still tried watching the show on Youtube: In the extremely rare case that I'd find an episode in japanese, it was ALWAYS flooded with dubbies bitching about how terrible the japanese version was. The dub-videos were ALSO flooded with dubbies complaining about how terrible the japanese version was, by the way.Kid Trunks wrote:But its not really Dub vs. Sub. Fuck the one's who don't like the Orange Season sets, I love them. They're cheap, they're my only DVDs which don't skip so I have to open the tray and clean the disk and tray just to see what small segment I missed, and they've got a shitload of episodes with brilliant subtitles.
Sure there's also the mistakes, American with Japanese Music dub seems to miss music and have American music replacing it, the cropping (We're not missing much, who cares if you can't see someone's forehead!), and the wrong colours...
Also, I've said this before, fans calling themselves SSJ10 something, it's not meant to be witty, it's not much of an acknowledgement that you lack common knowledge of a show you're meant to be a fan of.
"Fans" who claim to have watched all of Dragonball AF (with their Japan Girlfriend, lawl) You're the Napoleon Dynamite of this community! A freakin' 12 gauge, gosh!

I hate how fickle the whole damn community is. As a whole.
Just having a thread like this brings it all into perspective, if you ask me. As I read through it and realize I disagree with a good chunk of people say, all I can think is "damn, other DB fans are so picky"
I don't only like one version of the show, one set of DVDs or books, and I don't think any fanfiction is "overdone" because I look for things written well.
There's too much fighting about trivial garbage rather than just being a community who love the many incarnations of a great anime/manga.

I've noticed that. Quite the turn-around from when it was initially airing on TV here in the US.Vegard Aune wrote:Really? Because I see WAY more sub-bashing than people bashing the dub. Things that annoy me (no particular order):
1. People that say we should be grateful to Funimation for bringing the series out in the USA. This is beyond stupid, this series was a license to print money and would have come here eventually be it Funi or another company. Furthermore, 90% of the other companies would have handled it in a better fashion than Funimation has.
2. Fans that treat other fans like trash, based on their particular choice of DVD or manga sets.
3. The large amount of racist dub fans.
