Concerning the Genki Dama!?
I was wondering how much energy did Goku collect in the Genki dama to completely destroy Buu.? I am confused because people are telling me Goku retrieved power from the entire universe and some say from just Earth?
Also does Genki Dama destroy only evil?
Thanks guys.

Re: Concerning the Genki Dama!?
The Genki Dama used to destroy Buu used energy from all the people on Earth and Namek. The "whole universe" one was from the end of GT.Toriyama Boss wrote:I was wondering how much energy did Goku collect in the Genki dama to completely destroy Buu.? And, on the whole evil thing, the only info we ever get is that poele without evil ki can deflect it.
Viz DBZ Vol. 4 pg. 137-Goku: "Gohan!!! You don't have an evil "chi"!!! You can bounce it back!!!!
To begin, let's establish that there are two variations of how Genki Dama energy is collected. Either a small portion of energy is taken from living things, or (almost) all energy is given. You can't take the brunt of a being's energy unless he/she/it agrees with it by putting their hands up (don't know how this works for aliens, animals and plants).
Furthermore, the energy can be taken from different scales of areas (one planet, a solar system, probably even an entire Universe if you can concentrate hard enough). It's probably the user's capacity for concentration that defines the maximum 'area of effect' for the Genki Dama's energy. I wouldn't know if this limit also applies to people willingly giving their energy (as with the human race all the way on planet Earth).
If I understand well, then a Genki Dama will only explode on contact with an evil ki. The explosion itself can kill good guys, I guess.

Wow Thanks....SSJ3raditz wrote:He says this in DBZ Viz Volume 3:Toriyama Boss wrote:What does Piccolo say about Nappa's energy wave that blew a hole in the ground?
Piccolo - "Can't see... the bottom! Never dreamed... such a blast!"
Anyone got the Japanese original translations (Don't worry I am going somewhere with this)?

Everyone on Earth (Gohan included), probably energy from the life-forms still functioning on the Kaioshin planet, the Namekians, the Kaioshins, Enma and his lounge oni; they all contributed "genki". And even with all of that, Goku still needed to become a Super Saiyan in order to be powerful enough to force it on Buu. I'm thinking the energy given from each of the Earthlings was individually the equivalent of 4 full-powered Kamehame-Has and jogging for 20 miles (in essence their full power) from each of their own perspectives, since Kaio pointed out if they donated an additional reserve, they'd be giving away their vital life-energy and all die.
With the universal Genki-dama made at the end of GT, that would seem to have been made by; all remaining people on Earth Super Yi Xing Long still hasn't yet killed (Gohan, Vegeta, Pan and the gang not included since we don't see them donating), probably Tien, Chaozu, Yamcha, Puar, and Roshi and his turtle included. In addition to all natural life-forms on Earth and likely energy from its sun, energy from everyone Goku ever met in the universe (most likely Ledgic, the Yardrats, and some of the folks Goku met in the afterlife off-screen), and even Bubbles and Gregory.

Well, it was universal to the point that it wasn't restricted to the areas that gave energy to the Genki Dama used against Buu. It was more of a "Cool. All of these people I've met in my travels are helping me in this final moment" kinda thing. To me, this was one of the little redeeming factors of GT.Toriyama Boss wrote:Wow Thanks Conan.
I thought the Dragonball Anime said that it was a universal Genki Dama as well?
Anyway, the whole "universal" thing just means that it was coming from all kinds of places within the universe, rather than every living thing.
With regard to Nappa's attack in ch. 217, here is the original text:
あ。。穴の底がみえん。。
とんでもないエネルギー波だ。。!
Which translates to:
I can't see the bottom of the hole....
what an unbelievable energy wave...!
So yeah, basically what Viz said ^_^
EDIT: I think I might have an idea where you're going here, so just one thing: Piccolo says the bottom 'ga mien' which means it's not VISIBLE, not that there actually IS no bottom to the hole...although it's possible.

He obviously didn't punch through the crust, or there would've been magma welling up.Cypher wrote:I think I might have an idea where you're going here, so just one thing: Piccolo says the bottom 'ga mien' which means it's not VISIBLE, not that there actually IS no bottom to the hole...although it's possible.

I wanted to know what does Shunkan Idou translate to? Instantaneous movement in the orignal canon? It's not teleportation is it.
Well, here are the four kanji that comprise the word 'shunkanidou'.
瞬間移動
The first kanji, 'shun', literally means 'blink' or 'wink', and the next, 'kan' means space or interval. Therefore you could think of it like 'in the blink of an eye' or something like that....the two kanji together, 'shunkan' mean 'moment/ instant'.
'Idou' is made up of 'i' and 'dou', which both mean 'move' in slightly different ways (I think one means 'shift/change' as well as 'move', while the other means 'motion' and 'change'. 'Idou' itself means 'movement' (and also, I think 'migration', but that's not useful here ^_^)
So to answer your actual question, the term 'instantaneous movement' is basically as good a translation as you could give; to be honest though teleportation, as far as I understand it, essentially means that anyway(?)
Hope this is useful.
