1) Those who have this preconceived notion that "if it's filler, it automatically sucks". That includes characters and everything. That just seems to be a bit ignorant and very biased.

2) Fans who try to change other fans' minds. It's an opinion. Let people have their opinions.

3) Fans who take it WAY too seriously. I understand everything, and I'm a DB/Z/GT junkie too...but sometimes you have to know when to call it quits. To literally argue over show details for more than five minutes is pretty...not cool. I'm not even talking about opinions here, I'm talking about those pointless arguments where fans who don't know the answer to something (because it was never concretely specified) will argue for God knows how long just to prove some useless point.

The thing I hate the most is when fans completely bash and insult the dub, and claim that the original is practically "Kami"...especially when they watched subbed and NOT the raw. >.<

Don't get me wrong, I love the original, but I respect the dub. Because, to be honest, if it weren't for the dub a good chuck of the (American) DB community would not exist. Sure, I think the orignal is better than the dub, but not because its the Japanese. If the dub had the original music, closer scripts, and better VA, than it would be just as good, if not better.

I prefer the original to the dub, and I'm learning the language so I can finally watch WITHOUT the subs one day. :D

You haven't encountered it? It's not something that really happens on this board, but on other DB boards I see it all the time (especially at Gamefaqs, which is a site that has the problem of being too well known).

I'm assuming he means that they're against the original Japanese since it's well, Japanese.

No. I've never run across that. Before registering for DaizEX, the last time I talked on a Dragonball forum regularly was when Planet Namek was still open. Back then, subbies were still considered superior to dubbies. If all you could do was watch the show on CN, you were a loser.

Hmm... all this negativity... :/

Man, I'll be honest here; seeing people talk about all the things they're unhappy with about the community kind of gets me down. I mean, I'm not saying people can't voice their displeasure about things that get on their nerves here, and I note a good number of the complaints people have mentioned here already are actually quite valid, but... I don't know, I just wish people were a little more positive about how they seem to view the fandom for things they like (which at times seems to reach further into how they view people in general). I've seen quite a good many threads here lately that feature or at least include a lot of complaining about treatment of the series and the fans in general (the latter subject, for which I note, has had at least one other thread focused on it recently). While I'm not surprised that people feel compelled to rant about these things, lately, it seems that that's practically the only thing everyone here is doing, and it's saddening to see that the forum here appears only to be becoming more and more cynical as time goes on. It gets really tiring after a while, you know? It would be really nice to see some more positive discussion (and attention given to it) here.

I guess this kind of counts as something that gets to me about the fandom; there're just too many people being cynical and negative for my tastes. But, I guess that's just something common wherever you go and whatever you get into. I'm not trying to say that I wish you people would stop expressing what you don't like, but I would very much like it if more people would express what they DO like to even things out a bit around here. o_o;

In fact, I'm thinking of trying that now....
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

I suppose maybe your right. Although personally I've witnessed much more dub bashing, rather than the other way round.

All acting talent aside, its hardly strange that people find it weird that adult Goku is voiced by a woman who sounds like a little boy.

Also, for the record, I am a dub fan, but have no problem with the Japanese version and have never engaged in bashing it. Infact, I like the Japenese version also.

i hate when people are making prejudices of something they haven't seen.

example: someone told me, that i'm to old for dragonball and they say that it is for little kids..... just because it is animated....tztztz....oh well, lets see what a 3-year-young kid would think when freeza is killing vegeta (with all his punches)...

Well, the reason you see so much negativity in this thread is because the thread is about negative things. It would be a bit off-topic to reply to this thread with "well, this is what I like" or whatever.

So, if you need a pick-me-up, create a counter-thread to this.

My main problem has to be the people that fall into these categories

1) People that say they've watched Dragonball Z foreva(usually since 1999 or sometime in the early 2000's) only in the dub and go through all of the Dragonball related discussions either bashing anything in the original and claiming the dub is better.

2) The ones that never watched Dragonball despite that Dragonball Z makes no sense without it either because it's "too boring" and it doesn't have enough action scenes or *insert random stupid shit here*.

3) The ones that make up power level charts after power levels didn't matter or make up power levels for people that don't have a recorded power level (SSJ Goku)

4) Anybody that argues Goku v Superman or any other random person against a Dragonball character

5) IMDB's Dragonball Z board Where the lowest of the low of fans gather and where 1-4 take place.

If 1-5 disappeared then the world would be a safer place.
Kid Trunks wrote:All acting talent aside, its hardly strange that people find it weird that adult Goku is voiced by a woman who sounds like a little boy..

I just found that to be ignorance really. Ignorance that Dragonball Z is a "continuation" of Dragonball and not it's own series, and ignorance that Nozawa's voice is actually deeper when Goku is older compared to his younger self. It's just that those people don't think before they speak and usually eat whatever they said anyway in my experience.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

What does that have to do with Goku's voice?

It's just the stereotypical idea that a man's voice should always be deep.

Its hardly what you would call "stereotypical" is it? More likely, its a fact that a mans voice is deeper.

Also, I think what Vekurotto meant was that because Dragonball Z is continuation of Dragonball, thats why their voices are the same...I think thats what you meant. But even still, I don't see how that is ignorance on the part of the fans who criticise the fact that adult goku has the same voice he has when he is 11. People tend to notice things like that.
