So the story is starting from scratch, it's Beat's first time playing Heroes.
Another thing making this perfect for localization.

Well, if the cards are compatible, they can be used to unlock characters earlier/without gatchaS3 Hendrix wrote:
No, non of the console versions use physical cards. We know the switch version won’t for sure because they’re putting the bottom screen and top screen together on one screen

The cards will never be compatible. Whatever the term for the technology is, it's not NFC. They're not amiibo. They use simple black and white patterns within the card stock that the game's play stage is somehow able to read and determine what ones are being used. That's how certain "orica" groups cheat the system and use characters they don't own.ankokudaishogun wrote:Well, if the cards are compatible, they can be used to unlock characters earlier/without gatcha

The concept is the same, yes. However the actual format is entirely different. The cards and their codes are rectangular, and the patterns are typically made with arcs/curves.BlueBasilisk wrote:Something like a QR code?

I would think that they would incorporate the Amiibo aspect to this game if it was still a thing. However, I think Nintendo is phasing out of Amiibo, I believe?
Also, if it's true that they are basically doing a retcon of sorts to make this the "first" time Beat plays the game then I do agree with one of the posters above on this being a perfect invitation for the game to be localized for the first time. I don't know if there is anyone specifically invested in the lore of the game where they'd be upset with a do over of sorts. I've played UM2 and UMX and I certainly don't mind it, myself... though selfishly it's for the benefit of being able to localize it easier, if I'm being honest.
Here's hoping.

The figures they recently introduced for the arcade game are NFC though, aren't they?
It's not really a retcon so much as another continuity. If I'm not mistaken the 3DS games were already a different continuity from the arcade game, so this is just another one.
Nintendo isn't phasing out Amiibo, they continue to announce new ones.kizuki wrote:I would think that they would incorporate the Amiibo aspect to this game if it was still a thing. However, I think Nintendo is phasing out of Amiibo, I believe?

Fair enough. I didn't realize the difference between the Arcade version and the 3DS versions as far as the story/lore went. Either way, I like that it opens the door for localization, together with the popularity of Dragon Ball at an all time high globally.ArchedThunder wrote:Tje figures they recently introduced for the arcade game are NFC though, aren't they?Nintendo isn't phasing out Amiibo, they continue to announce new ones.kizuki wrote:I would think that they would incorporate the Amiibo aspect to this game if it was still a thing. Also, didn't realize they were still announcing new Amiibo. That whole thing has been quiet as far as I could tell, usually I'd notice some big announcements but I guess they're going to do something with the new Smash then? It'd be a pretty easy cash cow for Nintendo and Bandai to make SBDH Amiibo that can into the game like a card would for the Arcade version. Then again, they could have done that with the 3DS and never did, as far as I can remember, with the whole NFC thing though they did do it with Yokai Watch 3. (Sorry to bring up a few others games, don't want to make it about them just making comparisons.)

Oh, they still are announcing amiibo. Every new character announced for Smash is getting a corresponding amiibo to go along with, and that includes 3rd party characters like Simon Belmont.kizuki wrote:Fair enough. Anyway...I'm personally hoping Beat isn't the sole "OC" character option you're locked into as you play the story. I'll admit I'm a bit spoiled, considering the likes of Fusions and of course XV allowed me to rock whatever race hero I wanted.

You’ll be able to choose from the following races. Saiyan male, saiyan female, Majin, frieza’s clan, namekian, Android, Kaioshin, And demon. But in the Hero city hub world you’ll be locked as beat(it’ll be possible like UMX there will be 2 hubs the one where you’re beat and the one your avatar can travel) but no matter what in battle your avatar will be the race you chose, also every race has their own equivalent forms to SSJ, SSJ2, SSJ3, SSJGod, SSJBlueTreIII wrote:Oh, they still are announcing amiibo.
