I agree with the sentiment that is being expressed by many that Full Power Broly getting stomped is weird and disappointing, but at the same time....does anyone else feel like this is really meta? 99% chance it's not actually self-aware Toei, but this is the only thing about Broly that was brought over from the old films. And this big, dumb, iconic form that defined the character and represented everything wrong with him for decades just getting pooped on immediately strikes me as hilariously self-aware and the ultimate meta commentary.

Considering, from the promos, its Broly's first ever actual fight against sapient people, I'd say he did pretty well. Pushing Goku and Vegeta to not only fuse with metamoran dance, but go blue and keep pushing his power higher and higher....

One can only wonder how far Broly can go if he had half the training Goku and Vegeta have had.

It doesn't work as intended meta commentary. Because if it was, they would have reused the personality traits and storyline of the old Z-Broly for the film to (in)directly call out and mock it, instead of just having him get beat up in is most famous form.

I know its almost guaranteed not actually meta, I just found it poetically funny that the one major thing from the old films gets promptly stomped out.

It is still stupidly, insanely strong. A SSB fusion being needed to take you down is an honor in and of itself IMO. So in a way he isn't portrayed as weak but it kind of is at the same time.

But it is nice to see a fusion actually get something done in "canon" for once since ever.

Other than preferring they'd have had a close fight, I'd take this scenario if maybe we had Goku, Vegeta, and Freeza vs LSSJ Broly. At least then we coulda gotten to make the iconic form look cool before being demolished by Gogeta.

I'm not fully absorbed into the spoilers... I only know of a few things but I like Blue Gogeta moping Broly, its great redemption after Vegetto got made to look like a chump in the Super Anime and the Heroes Shit-Fest. Goku/Vegeta fusions should always be OP especially when it's at its maximum or close to it.

Edit: Blizzard has grown on me even MORE since my last post lol It didnt sound very Dragon Ball at all when I first heard and it still doesnt in the grand scheme of things but it does fit the tone of the movie upbeat yet dramatic in a good way.

Full Powered Broly getting completely thrashed by Gogeta Blue is really underwhelming and completely devalues Broly as a threat. It would be much better if it was a near-even all-out fight, with Gogeta Blue getting the upper hand towards the end. Something like SSJ1 Goku vs 100% Freeza or MUI Goku vs Awakened Jiren.

I get the feeling that if an anime adaptation happens, Broly will get some buffs, holding his own against Gogeta better, and maybe Gogeta will go Beyond Blue Kaioken to win, or some bullshit like that lol.

Either way, as others pointed out, fact that he had to push a fusion that far is still enough of a feat and puts him up there, so he doesn't look that bad.

I'm happy that they made Broly a more human, grounded and somewhat more relatable character. It adds a greater nuance to the usage of his hulking SSJ form beyond being mad a Goku, and makes it more of an emotionally based form that erupted from his darkest personal hour relating to the wellbeing of his personal kin.

I dig that.

Broly doesn't because Paragus cut it off, as to prevent him transforming into Ozaru and going out of control.

The classic Broly embraced being evil. While this Broly seems to be a victim. According to the spoilers but I take everyone of them with a grain of salt.

In a way every saiyan Goku has met from his universe has been in contrast to his character.

Raditz, Nappa, Bardock and Turles were all stereotypical saiyans, showing what Goku would have been like if raised among his own kind in the original continuity.

Vegeta is also this, in the elite sense, but unlike the others has the same drive to be get stronger, but it originally came from his dark pride and sense of entitlement. A dark reflection of Goku along with the other symbolism one could attribute to him.

Classic Broly is the ebodyment of the Super Saiyan Legend, not saiyans a a whole, a rampaging beast who lives to destroy. A strong contrast to the focused, righteous fury of Super Saiyan Goku on namek.

Goku Black is a very different play the idea of "Evil Goku", partly because he's not. Yet Goku's body and Zamasu's obsession with him makes for a very intreasting dynamic. It also shows what could Goku's power accomplish in the hands of a truly evil being.

Shin Broly, as I call him, carries the raw destructive fury of the LSS of his original counterpart but his new upbringing brings another lay that can also be contrasted to Goku. What if Goku was good but raised in a bad environment, purity corrupted by the evil of others.
