Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #1 Thread: "Broly"

The way I see Broly's improvement is that he didn't just become stronger fast with power ups, he simply learned how to use his power, the power that already existed within him but he never had the chance to bring it out, that is up until the SSJ transformation of course.

Here is why:
1) first, Vegeta literally said at the start of his battle with Broly that he is learning how to use his power. Meaning he is learning how to use something he already has.

2) Eventually Broly hit his limit, when he faced SSJB Goku he wasn't getting stronger anymore, which only supports my theory that he learned how to fully use his power, he is not getting power ups, hence why he stopped getting stronger.

That's why I don't see it as a flaw at all. I think it was completely fine. Broly is simply slowly tapping into his power, I mean it's his first fight after all, but it's a bit headcanon so I might be wrong.

You are absolutely right. Broly was literally just tapping into power that was already there as the fight went on. Until he reached his limit with "Super Saiyan FULL POWER!" I here people all the time make the mistake in thinking these characters have infinite growth but there is no such thing in Dragonball. It was the same with Hit, he was just slowly reaching his full power. As the story stated he never needed to power up before he met Goku.

Apparently, there is a saiyan in the flashback part called 'Moroko.' He's not King Vegeta's Butler, and the other two saiyans I know of from the cast list are Leek (bardock's pilot) and Taro (the moustache guy), both of the later were in Dragon ball minus. Is Moroko one of the ones seen in the screen shot next to Nappa's profile here?

Given that Goku and Vegeta were significantly weakened prior to fusing, is it possible that Gogeta technically was not operating at 'full power'..?

To be fair that’s something pretty unique to Black. Zenkai stopped being relivent passed the Frieza arc for the normal saiyans. Hell anime Black takes it even further buy gaining power from any damage I.e super zenkai as some of us call it.

Also I somewhat head cannon, although it is based on stuff stated in the Buu arc, that his Super Zenkai is another factor, one of a few, that’s affecting Merged Zamasu and making him unstable. So it did have its limite in the end.

There’s still the matter of the series implying that Saiyans love fighting to the point where they’re willing to do selfish things just to satisfy their urges. That’s pretty much Goku’s excuse for doing things like letting Vegeta go and refusing to stop the artificial humans when he had the chance.

That seems to have become just a Goku thing though. I’m glad they’re going in that direction because it makes him stand out more. Dude’s just and adrenaline junkie.

Saiyans are still ruthless people who kill without any hesitation. Paragus killed Beets just so he could save rations. But there will always be outliers, like Broly and Gine for example or even Bardock to a certain extent.

That's because the bulk of the Saiyans that existed were in Freeza's army. As was established in the manga, Saiyans with no battle potential or non violent natures were sent away. But in the movie Bardock mentions that even the high ranking Saiyans hate Freeza because they have no freedom.

...what? How is it offensive? And why is it a bad thing for them to be evil?

I find the trope offensive because I don't like the idea of someone being declared inherently evil because of their race. It's a terrible way to generalize a group of people and in general it's just lazy writing. Clearly Toiryama agrees because overtime he's changed the story to make them more sympathetic. Rather than Saiyans just being born evil, the evil ones rank higher in Freeza's army because they don't care about others while the others are sent away or killed. It's just better storytelling.

well generally speaking, old people are past their prime and not particularly strong. Females in most species are physically weaker, and dragonball seems to run with the strong females being exceptions to the rule.

I personally dont like it, but it looks like Cheelai's comment indicates that most species are running on earth ningen logic of biological averages.

I personally like it. Adds a sense of reality to the whole concept of Freeza’s army and how he’s trying to build it back up. But with how most of it has been destroyed, he’s grabbing from whatever he can find and get to build it back up again.

I'm going to South Korea at the end of february which means I will get to watch the movie there. I live in Denmark so nothing here! It will most likely be in Korean with no English subtitles but it's all good.
