Can Bardock father of Goku still be canon?
So with the Broly movie revealing details about the Saiyans in the past, is it possible for the tv special about Bardock to still be canon? I feel like it can work to an extent, if we assume that what we saw in Broly took place right before Bardock rebels against Frieza, and that the stuff earlier in the special just happened before what we saw. Thoughts?

Didn't a few Saiyans from Bardock's Team cameo in the movie? I recall seeing an image with the big one kneeling in background when Frieza was speaking.

All of them did if you go frame by frame.Zinnia wrote:Didn't a few Saiyans from Bardock's Team cameo in the movie? I recall seeing an image with the big one kneeling in background when Frieza was speaking.

No. It's not canon because Dragon Ball does not have a canon.uncutpokemon wrote:So with the Broly movie revealing details about the Saiyans in the past, is it possible for the tv special about Bardock to still be canon? No, because those assumptions directly contradict the TV special itself (and Toriyama's story as well).uncutpokemon wrote:So with the Broly movie revealing details about the Saiyans in the past, is it possible for the tv special about Bardock to still be canon? It was never canon. It was conceived entirely by the anime writing staff. That's why Toriyama made Dragon Ball Minus. He liked the character and wanted to present him his own way.

Could it be cannon with kai? They just did the final standoff with Bardock (which did still happen in Broly)? Which may support my idea that Super is a sequal(ly) to Kai where as GT is the sequal to Z
Re: Can Bardock father of Goku still be canon?
I would say Super is a midquel to the DB Manga/Kai Anime GT is a Sequel to the original Z Animeeledoremassis02 wrote:Could it be cannon with kai? Broly attacking Frieza's death ball and the final shot of him being consumed by it are the main contributions to the film of the original special.eledoremassis02 wrote:Could it be cannon with kai? They just did the final standoff with Bardock (which did still happen in Broly)?
IMO, aspects of it can still be canon, but the feature itself in its entirety cannot. I can easily see the facet of Bardock trying to warn his fellow Saiyans, not being believed by anyone at all, and making his last stand against Frieza's men can still happen in the current story. The way the "final stand" shots were presented felt very much like a "Hey you know how this happens, let's cut to that for a second to remind you of it" take. It's also been confirmed that Gine was already part of an existing squad (Gine used to fight alongside one), so I can very much imagine that Bardock's squad also still exists but weren't present with Bardock in the brief scenes we see of him.

I think I am inclined there might have been some footage cut from the movie. Hopefully, an extended cut is released and could shed more light on the subject.

I'd love an Extended Edition of Broly. It'd be great if more aspects of the prologue sequence could be included referencing the original Bardock special.

Try out what I did and edit the 3 available Broly movies together minus the OP and ED of the second one and it's like watching an extended cut.KBABZ wrote:Oops, thank you!ShadowBardock89 wrote:Fixed.KBABZ wrote:
