lol Nobody wants to review these releases since the first one. Actually, it's very surprising. I went on bestbuy.com one day and decided I was bored, so I cruised around to see what customers had to say about the Season Sets. Not one negative thing. It's astounding. People are really buying into FUNimation's hype. So that's how they're making so much money without making their product better (and continuing to defile even the movies, specials, etc!). Because people really think that it's the way it was meant to be...lol Can't even finish that.

Yeah, we all know that Funimation is evil, and that every person that likes the season sets is an idiot.TheGreatness25 wrote:lol Nobody wants to review these releases since the first one. Then ?

Here is something I noticed, while watching the episode "Upgrade to Super Saiyan".
When Vegeta is transforming in the original english dub, there is this "wown" noise when his hair changes color. But in the Original Japanese, and Redub, that sound is not there.
Here is the original english clip for reference.

Also, I am becoming fond of the english dub with japanese music. I don't think the voices sound anymore "wrong" then with the english music. But I have to admit, there are some occasions where I prefer the dub, one being Vegeta's transformation. I just think the music was more epic, and Chris Sabat really belted out a good scream.
EDIT: Also Number 19's voice definitely sounds different.

There are actually a lot of sound effects added in the original english dub. When Goku went Super Saiyan for the first time, they played some weird whistling noise the first time his hair glowed gold.omegacwa wrote:Here is something I noticed, while watching the episode "Upgrade to Super Saiyan".

I noticed that, too! I remembered that sound, and it wasn't in it. I don't really have a preference either way, though.omegacwa wrote:Here is something I noticed, while watching the episode "Upgrade to Super Saiyan".

Um, excuse me-I am NOT buying into any "hype". I think that the way that Funimation is presenting the show is truly GOOD. I love the widescreen, and I love the dub. I'm not some idiot who doesn't understand how they've cropped the top and bottom of the screen or anything. I really don't care about losing that. It looks fine. I like it. If you think that all of the people who buy these sets are stupid, then you are sadly mistaken.TheGreatness25 wrote:lol Nobody wants to review these releases since the first one. The ONLY, ONLY problem I have with the dub is that they still use words like "darn" and "rats".

Well by hype, I meant FUNimation saying that it's the way the show was meant to be seen, which it's not. And by claiming they didn't change the colors. Only a moron wouldn't notice the color changes on that extra (in the first 2 sets) where they have 2 pictures together and guess what, WHILE showing you both pictures together, they tell you that the colors are not different. Are they frickin joking or what?
And I never said whoever buys them is stupid because I buy them too. I have all the 4:3 that was released by FUNimation (nearly all, just not the Namek Saga and the Vegeta vs Goku fight), and I'm getting this as well because I see it as a different version of the show really.
Anyway, I never said whoever buys them is stupid. Did you see anywhere that I put that? Why are you coming on here looking to argue?

Buty seriously, lets not turn this into an argument. This thread is going good so far.

That is because they removed the awful filter his voice had in the previous dub.omegacwa wrote:EDIT: Also Number 19's voice definitely sounds different.

You know, I had typed out a long reply to this, but I'm just going to erase it. It's just going to turn into an argument. Really, I'd rather not argue with you about something that is a matter of opinion.TheGreatness25 wrote:Well by hype, I meant FUNimation saying that it's the way the show was meant to be seen, which it's not. I don't want to argue either, but nothing in my post is really an opinion. It factually is not the way it was meant to be seen, and it factually does have different colors than the original, and they factually expect you to believe that while showing you two pictures side-by-side with different color.
*Showing old and new picture, new picture lighter and more dull*
"Notice how the colors were unchanged and the original colors were kept."
I don't know what kind of color blind market they're trying to reach, but...wow.
And I like how they point out that you can see extra footage on the sides. "Notice the extra horizontal footage"...yeah. They conveninetly forgot to mention that they chopped off the top and bottom like twice as much as they added in. Hm decisions decisions, see Goku's arm, or see Goku's head...

I think they actually chop more from the bottom then the top. Cause there have only been maybe two instances when peoples heads were cropped off, and it was only for a maybe a second. Stuff on the bottom, on the other hand is cut off far more often.
I don't buy these because of "hype" or anything like that. When I was buying the episodes back in the day, I was too young to have a job(when I was 13-15), so I only got what episodes I could, on VHS. Now that I am older(22), and an avid DB collector, I have been buying a lot of DVDs. I have every episode of Dragon Ball, and I intend on owning every episode of DBZ. I have seasons 1-4, because it's a nice, boxed release. I would own them whether they cost 30 or 120 bucks each, widescreen or fullscreen and so on. I am buying them because of consistency and availability. I do have several original singles, but they are far too expensive, especially now with there limited availability.
I remember I planed on buying what I was missing in single format a few years back, but I did the math and it was ludicrous.

I understand that, and that's the only really great thing about this release. The amount of episodes per disc, and the price. A lot of the time the heads are chopped off. I can give you lots of examples right now. Famous picture of Vegeta kicking Goku in the face and Goku's head jerking back? Goku's head was chopped off. Full image of the Ginyu Force? Burter's head was chopped off. By the way, his head was chopped twice. The bottom is severely chopped off, so I don't even want to dabble on that. It's just math. 20% chopped off vertically and 10% added horizontally. I'd rather have the vertical. What annoys me is the lines disappearing, especially when something is shaking, and it irritates me that most face shots turn into nothing more than eyes and a nose even if they're talking.
I haven't seen a time in season four when that happens (borrowed it from a friend to do a review). That was mostly because of the bad encoding on the last three sets but I'm pretty sure they've addressed that since that problem is non-existent so far.TheGreatness25 wrote:What annoys me is the lines disappearing, especially when something is shaking, and it irritates me that most face shots turn into nothing more than eyes and a nose even if they're talking.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm not
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Are you talking about the lines disappearing? Then you haven't been watching carefully. There's a scene where the place shakes (Trunks vs Frieza) and Yamcha, Tien, and the others have disappearing lines. Then there's a scene where, I think it's Gohan running to Goku when Goku lands back on Earth, or Gohan talking to Goku, and Gohan's facial features are really light. Looks like his eyeballs are tiny, his nose is disappearing along with his mouth. Then when ChiChi is complaining about not having a car, Piccolo doesn't have a nose. They didn't address or change anything. Don't you realize that all of the series was already redone? In the first Season, they said that they already redid the entire series in the same format. I doubt they'd go back and redo it, especially since nobody seems to complain to them over it.
Well it's not as bad as it was before. You must be really paying attention for these flaws because I sure as hell know I've only seen it once.

I know it was a page back, but regarding the Funimation Green symbol, the first thing I thought of was a song:
"R-E-C-Y-C-L-E, Recycle!
C-O-N-S-E-R-V-E, Conserve!
Don't you P-O-L-L-U-T-E,
Pollute the rivers, skies, or sea,
Or else you're gonna get
What you deserve!"
I'm hoping some other 80s kids here (who would have been 5-9 at the time) get the reference.
More pertinent to the current discussion, the disappearing lines are annoying, but Season 4 looks the best of all of them so far. This, naturally, isn't a shock to anyone given that it also was necessarily produced after Seasons 1-3, and therefore would look better, but I digress.
