Question about these Z Boxsets.

Post by sebseb » Sat Feb 23, 2008 8:49 am

Hi. I'm new here. Anyway, I've got a site I use all the time for Z remastered FUNimation boxsets and on the site (aswell... huh?) they have this set of four boxsets with all the Z episodes on them.

You get four box sets and supposedly all episodes on 20 DVDs.

I was wondering if anyone know if this is a bootleg or what?

Thanks.

I thought so too, since it said "Includes the OVAs."

I emailed the site and they said it would work okay on any region 2 player, but I guess with so many episodes and only 20 discs total the quality wouldn't be any good, would it?

The video quality is alright on those particular ones and most bootlegs work on any DVD player because they're "Region-free" or "Region 0". That's nothing special. However, the translations for the subtitles aren't very accurate on them. With most of these bootlegs, they get translated from Japanese, to Catonese, to English, so it gets very garbled along the way. Not to mention the fact that the majority of Hong Kong pirated DVDs are made and sold by organized crime groups, so if the idea of funding the Chinese mafia isn't your thing, you may want to pass. 8)

Steer clear of this one, you're better off buying one of the orange season sets. At least they're official.

I bought this exact set last year not realizing they were a bootleg. The previous post above about the sub-titles is correct. There are many errors. Cell is call "Super", Buu is just called "Monster", and many other naming errors.

Overall, I am okay with the set because they were so cheap, but if I had known it was a bootleg, I wouldn't have purchased it.

I am still looking for a legitimate set to replace it, but I don't like the "remastered" set from Funimation.
