Additional scans of old video game magazine DBZ articles.

Post by Kunzait_83 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:02 pm

I’m well aware of how obscenely old and late this is. I want to kick myself for having totally missed this until recently.

This topic (which I presume will be locked very shortly due to how outdated it is) is mainly regarding the January 14th 2007 episode of the Daizex Podcast which talked of Dragon Ball in old video game magazines. I would simply post this in the official thread for it in the podcast forum, but I was afraid of getting mod-smacked for necro posting.

One of the things about that episode which I loved was that Mike put up scans of all the Dragon Ball articles he could find. I myself own just about every issue he posted, plus a few extra.

The main reason for this thread was that I wanted to post here two articles which were not included in the scans for that episode. It’s a topic that means so much to me as a Dragon Ball fan (EGM was one of the primary elements that turned me onto DB as a wee one in the first place), that I wanted to contribute to make sure that the scans on this site were as comprehensive as possible.

The first is a full two page Super Butoden 2 article from EGM 57 (April 1994). The second is a quick blurb on Super Saiya-jin Densetsu from Nintendo Power 37 (July 1992). I even included the covers of both issues to keep with the layout of the magazine scans page here on Daizex.

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u40/ ... en2pg1.jpg

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u40/ ... en2pg2.jpg

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u40/ ... Legend.jpg

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u40/ ... 4cover.jpg

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u40/ ... 2cover.jpg

Once again I do sincerely apologize for how absurdly late I am (by more than a year) in posting this, and for posting this here in the gaming forum rather than the Podcast forum. I simply had no clue that this was covered in the podcasts until not that long ago, and didn’t want to break the “no necro posting” rule. And I very much hope that the lateness doesn’t dissuade Mike in adding these to the magazine scans on the site. I’m just an anal-retentive sucker for “completeness” that way. :D

Many thanks! There's definitely no "necro-posting" going on, since it's not like you're bumping some obscenely old thread, or anything. Would it be OK if I adapted some of these into the site, itself? I've been thinking about making an overall "Tidbit" that combines the scans we did with some general discussion / back-history, and these could compliment that pretty well.

My grand plan was to make it a co-Tidbit/Podcast episode, but you can see how that plan turned out :P. There's a lot of old stuff like that where I plan on re-integrating it, but it's all a matter of free time and importance. Hopefully one of those will actually come to fruition this week (though not of that immense proportion).

Thanks, again!

I did, but I didn't think of it that way. I hereby dub you the new Magica.*

THOSE are the Final Bout screens I've been thinking of! I need to figure out which fucking magazine I have somewhere that has them. The only one I could find is the only one I put up on the the page:

In 1997 for mail-ordering an import PS1 game that just came out?

Hell, I'm used to paying $65 for new import games today without shipping costs...!

Back in the day I remember seeing Bushido Blade for £70, now I'm not certain of currency conversion, but for dollars, wouldn't that be in the hundreds? Anyway, back on topic.

Yeah, $65 is relatively cheap nowadays for import games. At least Play Asia sends you a $5 off coupon to ease the pain of your next order. :P

The 90's wasn't exactly the best time to order import games if you were still in grade school...

haha Man, I remember spending a lot of time just staring at those ads in the back of EGM and wishing I had the money for all the cool DBZ posters, games, and CDs.

I'd love for them to remake this game. I remember playing the darn thing all the way through in Japanese. I basically just ran around randomly talking to everyone and anything in order to proceed with the game. The Ssj Vegeta thing at the end was quite a treat as well.

I know what you mean, just that I got Final Bout from a Blockbuster in Georgia and I had ordered UB22 and Legends from one of those back of the magazine catalogs in '99. Being the only kid on the block with a DragonBall Z game was priceless.

Heh
I bought the re-issue of Final Bout. This was before I knew about the internet, alas, and it's just sat there. Even with cheats, it's just not fun.
