New fan dub of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans!!! (pt 1)

Post by cRookie_Monster » Sat Mar 22, 2008 7:49 pm

Part 1 is released!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osLrMl9GLY4

Thx to xthayetx for putting it together :) Thx to all the awesome voice actors!

I was the composer on the project. Only 2 Faulconer pieces were used, the rest is new original music some of which you can find on my site or on Soundclick. Music was a little quiet due to a couple last minute problems, but ah well.

Already posted, but didn't know you worked on the music! :D
(*wants to know when the next part is coming out* :P )

(Actually, I think the music was mixed a lot better than the other parts, as there were some volume balance issues with some sound effects and voices...)

Dude, the original music you composed is quite well-done and fits really well.

Excellent stuff, I especially enjoyed the title card music.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Pretty good, I admire your work, however the only problem I have with it is the fact that your VAs too closely imitate FUNI's VAs.

I think that's what they were going for.

Wait a second... this feels like the real thing!

Meaning, it's almost as if FUNimation had done it...!

Yeah, that's a shame, they should have gone for closer to Japanese or just their own.
Even music sounds Funi-ish...

Erm, guys. ^^; Considering we have two things about the same thing, shouldn't y'all pick one and stick with it?

Two things are really hurting this product, preventing me from taking it seriously:

(1) The clear use of bootleg/downloaded source.
Subtitles? From a bootleg download? In a fandub? Honestly, the effort couldn't be put into obtaining even an actual bootleg DVD so you could rip it without the subtitles? I'm not even talking the real Dragon Box release, here...

(2) The consistency with FUNimation voice actors.
As people are noting, it's almost like they're not sure how to feel about the voices following consistency with the FUNimation cast. It's the same kind of feeling people had when even FUNimation, themselves, switched to a cast in 1999 that was new and still tried to go in the same style as the previous cast. One of the main draws to watch a fandub for someone like me would be because I'm looking for something different from the established dub of the time.

All in all, I can appreciate the effort put into a fandub of any kind. Especially when you're pushing the one-hour mark of a final product, it's obscenely ridiculous and takes a sort of dedication that's almost unreal.

With all due respect, Mr. EX, even if their source was raw odds are it would be a download.

As for the voices, I liked them all but Gohan so far. Too raspy, even moreso than Stephanie Nadonly (spell?).
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
#2 was by design. This movie was never done by Funimation so the intent was to fill that void. If there had been a Funimation verison of this...I might agree with you.

I was kinda surprised at how well the "funimitation" turned out (It's like they kept what was recognizable about the Funi voices, and corrected some of the crappy qualities... Bulma and ChiChi sound less annoying, in particular). Egh, I think it feels like most of the VAs here are on par with FUNi (If not better in some cases? :P. Then there's Popo and Piccolo's laugh. . . o.o), and less cartoony? *shrug*.

As an overall, it was a rather adroit fan-dub. My only qualm would be that Gohan's dub voice sounds like it's some place closer to Laura Bailey's Chibi Trunks than Stephanie Nadonly's Gohan, but the music was well intertwined and you captured Sabat's Piccolo very well (what with the world weary tones of depth and what not). It culminates well.

You can try to spell better, and look up rules.
