Dragonball Shirts, Jackets, etc
Does anyone know where to find dbz clothing?
Chinatown, if you have one. They iron on the image of your choice.
Can shirts be considered bootlegs?
Can shirts be considered bootlegs?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Yes, they can. Any unlicensed Dragonball product (this goes for other properties, too) is technically a bootleg. How bootlegging is dealt with varies between companies.bkev wrote:Chinatown, if you have one. They iron on the image of your choice.

An example would be Mirage Inc. They own the rights to the Ninja Turtles. When they're alerted to bootleg clothes and such, if the profit the bootlegger is making is "small potatoes" they usually don't go after the bootlegger. But, if someone's making a boatload of bootleg action figures to be sold in a bunch of different stores then they usually take action.

Yeah, one thing I'm going to keep a sharper eye out for at Otakon this year is DB clothing. I've been really hankering for a hoodie or t-shirt or something.

Around the beginning of the year, I was at Hot Topic. I noticed among the anime tee shirts, there was one with a nice collage. I took a closer look, and I went -- OMG I know these guys! It's a black tee shirt with a nice collage of people. Piccolo, Perfect Cell, Trunks, Kid Buu, Freeza, Vegeta, Gohan, and Goku in the front in the Kamehameha pose.
Yeah, I got the shirt - I think it's the newest one I've seen in a long time. I'm sure other shirts that were released years ago still exist, but they're extremely rare these days.

Nice! I got the same exact one. Here in AZ though, I don't see any DBZ shirts or any other apparel anymore. (except in Hot Topic, where I got that one you described.)Brakus wrote:Around the beginning of the year, I was at Hot Topic. I noticed among the anime tee shirts, there was one with a nice collage. I wore a lot of DBZ clothes back in junior high/beginning of highschool. I kind of grew out of that fashion as for some reason the opposite sex didn't take to kindly to it. I mainly wear some of the older ones for when I work loading package cars.
I still have some of the nicer 40 dollar shirts they had in the Z store a few years back that I sometimes break out for lounging purposes. I like the football jersey quite a bit.
But if I could find some more adult styled clothing that didn't just have pictures of a dozen characters on them I would certainly pick them up. Maybe a Capsule Corp logo or something...

I've seen only one DBZ shirt at Hot Topic, I was going to buy it, but I decided against it.
It's kinda obvious sometimes that none of these people who actually design the shirts know anything about DBZ, they just know that a fanbase exists so there's room for possible profit. Because even though this shirt that I saw was a group shot of a bunch of DBZ characters, the time period that these characters were from was inconsistent. Goku was from the later Saiyan saga, Gohan was in his Saiyan armor from the Freeza saga, and of course Vegeta was from the Android/ Cell saga. Other characters were scattered about from different time periods.
I can understand if the shirt features a single character and a "time line" of their progression through the series, but not a bunch of different characters in a single shot from the different points in the series. Maybe I'm just picky, but that's just weird.

You think that's bad, there's one GT t-shirt that says "TRUNKS" in big letters with various pictures of him in the background, but the big, colored-in shot in the foreground is of SSj GT Gohan. :/

I agree Kid Trunks. I also wouldn't mind a shirt with a goofy looking Goku head on it.
The only issue is that Dragon Ball has been pumped up to be an action cartoon based on fighting, when if you actually look at the subtlties of it, it isn't: It's a goofy action packed adventure with the primary action being fighting.
Even the really serious battles in the manga have a comedic aspect to them.

I don't mind it if it's including Freeza, Cell and Buu in the same shirt too. Cause then there's a harmony. Gohan and Freeza, Trunks and Cell, Vegeta and Buu, with Goku in his unchanging Gi in the foreground. It's, like, complete.DemonKingPiccolo wrote:I can understand if the shirt features a single character and a "time line" of their progression through the series, but not a bunch of different characters in a single shot from the different points in the series.
