29th Budoukai

Post by Dayspring » Thu Jun 24, 2004 12:57 am

Was there a budoukai in GT? If so, which one+what happened in it?

If not, who would have like to see another budoukai? Personally I'd like to see one final arc in the manga, one that would have Goku training both Pan AND Uub for the tourney. To make up for their lack of SSJ, he could have taught them Kaioken. Lord knows someone as powerful as Uub could handle upwards of x50. Then we could have a final budoukai for nostalgia sake where, instead of the Uub+Goku flying off scene being the sign that all will be well, we'd have Uub as the winner.

Yes there was a Budokai in GT. It happened right in between the Bebi saga and the Super 17 saga. Goku enters in the kids division. XP Pan does really well, but then she resigns from the tournament because she doesn't want to look like Mr. Satan. Ubuu makes it through to the finals and faces off against Mr. Satan and was going to defeat him but then pretends to lose so that Mr. Satan will still be thought of as the Earth's hero.

Yeah, there was a Budoukai in GT. It wasn't specifically said WHICH, but it's assumed to be the 29th one.

Nothing particularly important happened. Uub and Pan beat up everyone until Pan found out the winner would be Mr. Satan's successor, so she withdrew. Uub lost to Mr. Satan when Mr. Buu's voice told him to stop because Satan was everyone's hero. Oh, and Goku was conned into being in the Children's Division because, according to Mr. Satan, there was a height limit (Kuririn later revealed it was a lie). And Vegeta acted oddly out of character, determined to get to Goku. THey started to fight at the end of the episode, but Goku got hungry and cut off the fight.

Fuck. ALL of that sounded crappy. What was the premise for their entering the tournament?

Do you mean a Tenkaichi tournament? Because the answer is yes. It's been awhile, but I'll quickly go over it for you.

- Mr. Satan wants to avoid fighting Goku, and/or wants Pan to become champion, so he tricks him into competing in the childrens division.

- Goku makes it to the finals, but is then tricked by a sneaky whiney brat who tickels him out of the ring.

- Pan progresses pretty far (Even taking out a fighter was as big as Hildegarn), but then when asked by the media if she was going to take over Mr. Satans title, she imagines herself looking like him (with a fro & gotee) and drops out.

- Majoob (Oob fused with Majin Boo) makes it all the way to the finals easily, disguising himself as "papaya-man" (ala Great Saiyaman)/ He actually believes Mr. Satan to be a great fighter, and proceeds to beat the living crap right out of him. Then just before the last blow, Boo tells Oob that Mr. Satan is the worlds hero, so he purposefully throws the match and makes it look like Mr. Satan won.

EDIT: Damn, I was too slow @@

Whaaaaaat?? :x At least the 28th budoukai had an excuse: Goku wanted to fight Uub, and everybody wanted to see this mystery fighter that Goku was talking about.

Heh. So that we would continue to wonder if it was five or ten years that have gone by between Z and GT.

Isn't it strange how early on in DB the Tenkaichi Budokai's were only 3 years apart, but in late Z and mid GT they are as far as 10 or 15 years??

Well I know that by the time of DBZ, there just isn't one held anymore and then it's revived well, in a way, by Cell with his declaration of wanting a tournament. And I guess they started holding it again after that as a sort of commemoration in Satan's honour since everyone thinks that he actually defeated Cell. As for why it stopped being held as often again? That's just according to GT. So it's really just filler.

They were 5 years apart in pre-DB, 3 apart up to the 23rd, then random intervals of about 7 years went by for the 24th and 25th, then it went back to 3 for the 26-28th tourneys, and GT is more random than anything. That's your DB lesson for the day. ^__^

Did they ever give the big guy that Pan fought a name? Or the geeky kid that beat Goku?

a lot of people think the Cell Games is the 24th World Tourniment, when I don't think it's the case. Mr. Satan fought Spokavich in a previous tourniment (show with flashbacks and his reaciton to him being Videl's opponent). There is also a flashback to a fight involving Krillin's opponent. The announcer said that the previous tourniments were boring (though he hinted that there was more than one and that was meant to be the 25th). It was also mentioned that Jewel was the runner up in the last tourniment and Videl was the Junior champion. Granted I can't say I saw it on the show, instead read it online but I think there's a good chance it's true. With the exception of Mr. Satan, none of those characters took part in the Cell Game. I think it's a good chance the proper 24th Tourni took place between Cell and Buu. Or, they could be refering to other tourniments.

There is also a second Strongest Under the Heavens/Tenachi Budokai in GT. It's in the last ep, where we see Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr for the first time. Pan is old and by chance catches a glimps of a man she thinks is Goku, and leaves just before the fight finishes (no idea who won).

WHAT?! Nonono: the 24th tourney took place during the android saga. Since none of the Z crew were there, Mr Satan kicked ass. A few days later, Cell made his announcement on TV concerning the Cell Games. Thinking he was all that, and title of tourney winner to back that up, Satan decided to take on Cell in the Cell Games.

It's the first episode of the "Super 17" arc, on the disc "Calculations"
