Dragonbox VS DVD Singles

So, I'm still interested in picking up the first Dragonbox after that guy on Ebay took off with my money and never sent me anything, but I've been thinking if I shouldn't go for the singles instead. They're easier to get ahold of due to actually being sold in stores (that ship outside Japan, even), but I'm obviously going to miss out on the extra bonus material.
What would the advantages and disadvantages to each format be, and what would you personally recommend going with?

Personally, I think the Dragonbox is great. There's no subs, but tht doesn't stop me from putting subs on there and enjoying it. If you want a cheap way to get them, get the season sets. Sure, they suck, but it's a good way to just fill in the missing holes or a season you're missing in your collection. =]

Ah, no, the singles I'm talking about are the Japanese DVD releases with Dragonbox-quality video. I'm not buying the season sets.

Ooo... Ok, haha. Well, it's even simpler then. You don't have much of the series in your colleection, go for the Dragonbox. You just need to fill in some holes in your collection, go for the single discs. And I'd try again on buying the Dragonbox on eBay or Amazon, because not everyone rips you off.!

I have the first 15 singles and would love to sell them off to get a Dragonbox.

One of the biggest problems with the singles is that they use those super jewel box cases that can easily break during shipping. I've heard of people buying the Dragonbox singles from Amazon Japan and cdjapan and ended up getting cracked cases.

Jeez, what an asshole! How much did you give him? After an incident like that, I'd be scared off ebay for life. Infact, I'm kind of reconsidering whether or not I should even use ebay at all now.

Really? It's not just me? I thought I just had bad luck when I got my copy from Play-Asia and it had a crack on the side. But it's no big deal. I can't stay dissapointed at such a beautiful masterpiece.

I tried, but they automatically dismiss the case if it's been more than a month since payments were made. The Dragonbox was being shipped to Europe around Christmas time, so I knew it could take a while for them to arrive. Some DVDs I ordered from Rightstuf around the same time took roughly a month to get there (though the catalog they sent in a separate envelope got there in a week or so, for some reason), and a Gameboy game a friend sent me disappeared completely, then somehow ended up being returned to him after nearly two months (and yes, it did have my correct address on it). There was a lot of crap going on with the mail at the time, so I assumed the Dragonbox would eventually arrive, but then the guy never replied to my messages or emails when I tried contacting him (I had no problems talking to him earlier, when I told him I'd be interested in purchasing the Dragonbox if he put it back up for sale), and eventually cancelled his Ebay account. There's really nothing that can be done.

I think the thing you really need to consider is what you want out of the Dragon Ball Z series.
If it is only the episodes you're after in their best quality I'd say just go for the singles, the only difference with them is the dvd-menu (animated vs still image) other content is all the same.
You'd miss out on the Bonus discs which would make you miss out on Bardock and Trunks special along with the Playdia OVA, and of course some commercials which you will probably look at once and never look at again I know I don't, although there is that cool musicvideoclip (kind of).

But if you really want the fancy box the figure and the book, well then you should hold out and see if you can still get it, but just look at these reviews to see if you think it is worth it.

Then again the singles have all that cool artwork with the dvd-cases against these two boxes, also I believe the pictured discs are different but I'm not sure.

As a proud owner of all of the Dragon Boxes I can say this, I actually do absolutely nothing with them and they are just standing there filling shelfspace since I all put them on external hard discs to keep it all in mint condition, but I'm so glad I bought them and wouldn't part with them as long as I don't have to, but in the end if I wouldn't have been able to get them on release I would have already bought the singles, and waited to see if they ever release a Blu-Ray version, which is bound to come sometime.

Wow, that's absolutely terrible...I'm sorry to hear about that. It sucks that people can get away with this kind of thing. Maybe there is something else you can do? That's a lot of money to spend and not get anything in return.
