Yeah, people don't take a lot of things into consideration. Even when you could always tell them that you're a fan of the Japanese anime/manga and not the American movie, people will still think about the movie before.
On the contrary, when you think about it, if the movie is going to be embarrassing then it would embarrass itself rather than DragonBall. But, like I said...non-fans won't see that.

Agreed, I think it'll be the same when the Speed Racer movie comes out. I think kids will be very turned off by the 1960's toon
The big diffrence here being that Speed Racer's source material is hokey as hell and DBZ is awesome.
Off that topic, I can see it being both ways. The fanbase is so old and established already that anime people should know what you mean when you say dbz. Anime people being mostly who I'd be talking to about anime, in my case anyway. But there are always dumb people out there who, for example, don't know that Legolas isn't really a smokin' hot gay blonde elf boy. I'm hoping to avoid those and find the couple cool new people who see the light and realize holy shit, Gerald Bulter can't sing and someone needs to noose him immediately so we can bring somebody good back. That sorta thing.
