Scott, if you check back here, thanks for the shot of Goku checking in on them with that crystal ball. I know you guys shit on him in canon for apparently not checking in on them at all, so to see you guys showed him doing so secretly was really heartwarming, especially when your version of Goku has seemed even LESS caring about his family than canon Goku.

I mean, there is a reason we spent Season 3 building up to Goku's sacrifice. The narrative WAS faulty and we wanted to correct it.

But honestly thanks for the acknowledgment. In truth, the whole short is significantly less worthwhile without that shot. To me, anyway.

I mean, that was something I didn't know I wanted to see, didn't know I needed to see, or was expecting to see, but I'm glad I did. THAT'S why I've loved seeing your guys' evolution as writers since season 3 began in late 2012 (a little over 6 years ago now. Where'd the time go?). You guys have the jokes, you have the story adapting writing, but you guys have also started showing a lot of heart & I appreciate it. A lot.

(Enjoying the DragonShortZ so far; I'd be curious to know if, were it to become feasible, TFS would consider switching to 2D animation. Besides being a step closer to the original, I think the thumbnails they've had drawn for the videos are leagues above the CG models for expression.)

I am on board with this in theory, but I'm guessing doing 2D animation well would be outside their means. 3D is just way cheaper, faster, and easier. Probably if they did 2D, it'd end up being very basic and un-expressive, sadly.

I can imagine them putting it off for DBcember, since they literally have no other DB games to play outside of those bootleg fan Flash games they spent 2 videos on. It's like Legacy of Goku 2/Buu's Fury, which took MANY parts to do. Lani's currently playing through it on his own time & he actually likes it. I think Kaiser's playing it. I can imagine many other members of their crew are also playing it in their spare time.

I just don't know how they can do ANY original animation period. Doing silly slice of life shit for ShortZ is one thing, but how the fuck can the janky-ass SFM or whatever the hell it is, even come close to doing stuff like the Goku/Vegeta or Goku/Kid Buu fights the justice they deserve?

Bojack isn't happening at all due to the team not being able to come up with a cleaver way to do it and season 4 is probably a long way out.

That was the initial reasoning, yes.
However, you missed the big thing about this:

The reason Bojack failed is the same reason that season 4 is happening at all: TFS are done dealing with the constraints of the original footage. So, the Dragon ShortZ are happening to have them test out doing original animation, get to grips with it, and build up assets to use for season 4.

What I'm getting at is this: It has been hinted that Bojack may end up happening after all, using the Dragon ShortZ style that they're aiming to do season 4 with as well. This hasn't been confirmed in any way, shape, or form, and we have no indication that it's being thought about seriously, but I recall Kaiser hinting that with the original footage no longer being a constraint, it is possible they may try returning to Bojack.

But yeah, the last we heard is that they canned it because the original footage was tripping them up and they couldn't figure out a clever way to deal with that. Bojack is honestly a pretty straightforward, dull, by-the-numbers movie, with no real personality -- and barely any dialogue -- from the villains.

Yes, but there is a but here...

TFS said season 4 will basically be like the Dragon ShortZ, and the Dragon ShortZ are taking place between seasons 3 and 4, so while season 4 will probably be ages away (they said one reason they're doing the ShortZ is so they can build up assets for season 4, so probably they'll be making a lot of shorts in different settings, using different characters, for quite a while yet), the ShortZ are sort of acting as a season 3.5, and I think they are intended to tide us over until we get to season 4.

Does anyone else find amazing how long the series has been going? I mean, we're not even in the Buu arc, and it's clocking at more than a decade. This is longer than the original Z in Japan. I began watching it again in 2011 (I think), but no way I would envision it going as long as it has. DBZA is what got me back into the original franchise at that time, though, so I'm grateful to them.

Bro, same, but in 2012. It's funny to think that it's been almost a decade since I started watching this series (Got into it right after Season 2 ended & binged everything a few times before Season 3 began & have been consistently entertained ever since). I loved it so much, I bought the DVDs for DBZ Kai & got the DBZ Budokai HD Collection, then DB & GT, as well as getting back into anime in general slowly where I've rediscovered many old favorites from the old Toonami days & discovered some newer favorites as well in the process.
I've said these things before, but I owe a lot to these guys, Little Kuriboh, & Dark Side Incorporated for helping me rediscover a forgotten love of anime through their silly little parodies on the internet. I've gotten many hours of entertainment from them & others from the parodies & source materials. Some people on here REALLY give TFS a lot of shit for either not being funny in their eyes, or accidentally perpetuating interpretations of the source material that either doesn't make sense, or is just wrong (something they've only really tried to dispel in the last few years with Kaiser's damage control), but I only see those as the warts on an otherwise great series.
