Marsters seems to know Piccolo's backstory
This is a video from a few months back, so sorry if it's been posted before.
It caught my attention because Mr. Marsters seems to have pretty solid knowledge on Piccolo's backstory. I dont know how much of it was from the producers breifing him, but he seems like he knows what he's talking about.

Although, it seems that he's a fan from what I've seen.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
'Tis a bit strange tho
He noted Piccolo Daimao's stuff, but Dragonballz, where there is rarely a mention of King Piccolo's wish to be young again, is usually the more popular one in America, if I'm not mistaken and Dragonball usually overlooked.
In any case, I was majorly (and pleasently) surprised he knew about the Piccolo Daimao stuff

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I think he said that both him and his son are fans of the series. I'm not sure if they became fans because he was slated to play in the movie, or if they were fans before he was slated.
From the sounds of it, he seems like he was a fan before he was slated to play Piccolo. And if you actually listen to him, he sounds a bit like Chris Sabat. Not only in the say he sounds, but the way that he interacts with the crowd.
I'm actually thinking that this movie may not be as bad as I expected. Hopefully they stay true to the character personalities and looks atleast.

Yeah, that's what I meant, in that I wonder if Marsters knew about King Piccolo before he was asked for the part. But I guess that's really good, if the people behind the movie even consider doing King PiccoloSun_Wukong wrote:You're probably right. Most people dont know Piccolo had a father if they hadnt seen DB.Kunzait_83 wrote: I guess because DBZ's more publicized in the U.S. most people just automatically assume that it's a DBZ movie and that Marster's is playing Piccolo Ma Junior. However, tis not the case.

I was pretty impressed when I realized that they were starting with Daimaou, for multiple reasons. One that they were taking the time to get the story down and get there (it doesn't make much sense why Pic's so angry if you don't know about his father's run-ins with Son), and two that if one plays Daimaou first, one will gain a much better understanding of his much more complicated son and thus play him better. > > This makes me happy I must say.
Watching the video gives me the impression he knew about the chars before the movie came out- seeing as his kid watched it on tv, there was a nice gap between the end of that and this whole movie deal being settled. You know, I think this might just work.

I gotta have some kind of hope. I've hated this movie for the last... several years, whenever the idea was first floated, and now that it's almost upon us, I wanna believe it won't totally brutalize my fandom.pepsiplunge wrote:he is supposed to know it what's the big deal....this is just a stunt to try to please the fans

I'm pretty sure Emmy Rossum (Bulma) openly said once that she didn't know anything about the character/show and didn't look into it either. So it's not like Marsters HAD to act like he knew it. He could just as easily say "I didn't know shit about the character until I got the role.".pepsiplunge wrote:he is supposed to know it what's the big deal....this is just a stunt to try to please the fans

Well shame on her...an actor has to do some kind of research for a role,at least that's what i think...TriforceCaptre wrote:I'm pretty sure Emmy Rossum (Bulma) openly said once that she didn't know anything about the character/show and didn't look into it either. Even as Bulma's not the most complicated woman in DB, you really out to know something of what you're getting into. I'd at least read up on wiki or something before trying out for a role.
