Wow. Finally one coming from someone with a decent grasp of Photoshop. :D

This does look like an official cover alright. Keep it up man, I also really enjoyed the UUE covers.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

The UUE covers were awesome. Good job. Just change that Vegeta picture to one from the Saiyan saga.

Alrighty. What I'll do is I'll keep that picture, but replace his shirt with Saiyan armour. I just need tons of reference pictures; any help with that will be much appreciated.
disturbed001 wrote:Wow man that looks wonderful. How do you get the same font that they use, like where you wrote "Season One"?
<Download>

(I'm assuming you have Photoshop, and know how to add the text to the program?)

Instructions on how to make the text:

Write out what you want in white, and rasterize the layer. The colour of the text isn't just pure white; it subtly turns gray as you look down from the top, so use the rectangular marquee tool to select 30% of it from the bottom and set the feather to 5-10. Then use the brightness/contrast adjustment until it looks right. Next go to 'Blending Options' and do a black stroke of about 1-3 on your rasterized layer. Go on to add a normal red drop shadow, and modify the options (distance, angle, color) until it looks about right. Just keep looking over at your DVD covers for comparison. For the red blur effect at the back, make a new layer behind the text layer and create a relatively dark (relative to the drop shadow) red box starting at the bottom of the text, and reaching up to about 70% of it's height, but with the length a bit longer on the left and right sides. Then go to filter> blur> motion blur, and blur it the right distance until it looks about right. Finally, select the text layer and free transform the text, so it has this slight slant; select the marquee tool, right click> free transform> distort, and move it rightwards from the top left hand corner while holding down shift (to keep it straight).
disturbed001 wrote:And also, do you have the pictures of the 3 cancelled covers? I'd really like to have them. Thanks and great job.
I'm a bit confused. Are saying that you want the 3 pictures of the characters on the cover (Vegeta, Krillin, Goku), which you call artwork from 'cancelled covers' (if so, only the Goku one is unreleased FUNi artwork, which I will give to you if that is one of the three which you speak of). Or, assuming Goku is one of the three which you speak of (and is the one you want), do you mean there are two more unreleased FUNi artworks? Sorry for the confusion, I just need you to clarify!

I don't know much about the 'cancelled' artwork, other than the picture of Goku on the cover that I found on FUNi's website. If there is more unreleased artwork out there (like the Goku one), please show us. The Vegeta and Krillin artwork used on my cover are made by me (traced from official Toei artwork, and colored in shades of blue), but the one at the end is unreleased artwork.

Sorry I didn't make it more clear. Since Funi was missing 3 volumes of their UUSE I've been trying to find these covers being "Unreleased" The one of Goku is one of which I speak. Another has Vegeta and I don't know what the 3d one is.

For those not in the know, here was a mock version of the first set's cover art:

Why didn't FUNimation keep on going this route? I mean I fell in love with their DragonBall Box Sets because they don't take a crapload of shelve space. I can only see good things happening if they would've went that direction, instead of the orange brick direction and widescreen format. I guess FUNimation just doesn't know how to keep their head above water long enough.

Umm the "Orange Brick" takes up less shelf space than this. The DB box-sets held 2 discs each. Each disc had roughly 6 DVDs. It would take three of those to hold the 6 discs that the Season Sets have. It's roughly the same, or even more than the Season Sets.

Hoo, nice work, Steven Perry! Might you know of any site(s) out there that have the same clean cut Toei DBZ images? The kanzenban images are nice and all, but they kinda give away that they're custom covers.

I think it looks fantastic, and the only thing that could do with some tuning up (in my opinion) would be the Genki Dama, it looks a little bit plain in comparison to the rest of the image, you might want to jazz the edges up the edges with a little linework (refer to the episode to see what I mean) but not too much so that it dominates the image.

I did; there's no reason for everyone to continue "quoting" the same image over and over in their replies. Furthermore, notice how all of your posts are also being grammatically corrected? Please re-read the forum rules, which you agreed to prior to registration.

It's probably a slip up that would occur with FUNi's cover designers. So, it works out.

DaemonCorps, just lettin' you know I haven't forgotten about those screencaps, I just got delayed. I'm working on capturing them now, will hopefully have them up either in an hour or two tonight, or sometime tomorrow morning.

Not trying to start anything up here, but why didn't you snip the other two image quotes on this page?

EDIT: Nevermind, it just occured to me that those images are both the first time they've been displayed on this page, so people don't have to go back to the last page to see them again.

Awesome. Though I'm actually busy this entire week (for once), so I might not be able to get to 'em until next week.

I'm currently working on a silver box style art. It will look kinda assy though, so be warned, as this is my first day using GIMP!

Sorry for the double post, but does anyone know the name of the font style used for the smaller text on the steel boxes?
