Didn’t they already try and fail spectacularly with that in DB Kai?Matches Malone wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 2:56 am The topic isn't about rebooting Toriyama's manga, but remaking the anime. Think of HunterXHunter's 2011 anime reboot compared to its 1999 version.

Kai's not really a remake. It's just a recut with new music and the dialog re-recorded. It's as much of a remake as the 1996 Funi syndicated dub of Dragon Ball Z was.GhostEmperorX wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2020 5:00 pmDidn’t they already try and fail spectacularly with that in DB Kai?Matches Malone wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 2:56 am The topic isn't about rebooting Toriyama's manga, but remaking the anime. I also wouldn't say it failed spectacularly. It clearly proved there was enough interest in Dragon Ball still for Battle of Gods and eventually Resurrection F and Super. I think people use the fact that it was "cancelled" as some excuse but from the beginning it was announced that the plan was to do 100 episodes so they were pretty much always set on just adapting Saiyan-Cell arcs and then later decided to do Boo for international audiences before using a truncated version for Japanese broadcast when another show (Toriko?) failed.
That's not to say Dragon Ball Kai was good or worthwhile or warrants existence or didn't have problems. But it didn't "fail spectacularly"

You're right about Kai not being a failure, as it was always in the top 10 viewed anime each week. It however didn't move any merchandise or video games, which resulted in it being cut short. It being planned as a 100 episodes from the start was just a rumor, and more of fans' hopes rather than a reality.MasenkoHA wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:21 pmI think people use the fact that it was "cancelled" as some excuse but from the beginning it was announced that the plan was to do 100 episodes so they were pretty much always set on just adapting Saiyan-Cell arcs.

No it was announced before a single episode aired in Japan that it would be around 100 episodes

I’m sure lackluster toy sales cemented that it wasn’t going to get more episodes (until it did anyways) but the plan was always around 100 episodes.

"While not in the above announcement, other (unsourced) reports are noting that the number of episodes is being reduced from 291 to approximately 100".MasenkoHA wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:55 amIt was announced before a single episode aired in Japan that it would be around 100 episodes.
100 episodes wasn't in the announcements, nor were the reports linked to any reliable source.
