TobyS wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:10 pm So Salagair has formally retconned the easier Bardock visions it seems there are now no Piccolos left.

I'm bored of this fight now, it's relied on so much plot induced stupidity that Bra has been able to win. (Kaioshin being useless for no reason) U9 being cowards in a way that's not even beneficial long term. Helior armor design flaws just being added to to the plot randomly, No one noticing her hitting the other Piccolo and stealing his beans. Buu not healing, The cell jr not realising Gohan wanted to go for babidi etc etc.
There's plenty of valid criticisms of the writing, such as Sal not differentiating between the duplicate characters (Gohans, Piccolos, etc.), not exploring the really good universe possibilities, or straight up forgetting characters are around, like Toriyama often did.

However, most of the above are wrong. Piccolo is standing right there, there's literally a reaction shot of him watching Gohan die. How does that counter any Bardock vision?

U9's "cowardice" is part of their universe; they are specifically said not to be that strong and would die instantly without extremely careful planning. They're not past Cell Jr. levels, and most of the coup is Perfect Cell levels now.

Helior armor always had the one-shot weakness, even Zen Buu learned that flaw when he tried to use it.

Fat Buu is not DBZ Mr Buu. He's very stupid and also has ~10 years of Babidi's control making him far less generous or kind. He hasn't healed anyone altruistically and is far more selfish than Universe 18's.

Bra uses teleport-spam all the time, so she can steal other-Piccolo's beans easily. The past DBZ Cell Jrs. have been shown to be barely able to speak English, much less formulate complex plans...so the fact these can even do what they do now is a step up. And even so--characters can make mistakes, especially in life or death situations.

It's gonna end very soon anyways when Bra

Jeezy Petes. That is gruesome.

I'm sure there are worst examples in canon, but this is still icky.

Oh, neat, even more tasteless gore with Piccolo being Saibaman'd.

It feels like this is being done more for shock value than anything.

What I'm expecting to happen next is Bra swiping the senzu, Gohan getting a rage boost that ultimately amounts to nothing, a couple more deaths for the good guys, more of Buu not healing people, an injury of some sort to Bra that requires her to eat the senzu, and Vegetto eventually showing up when everyone is dead.

Yeah this is just needlessly gory for no reason.

And before anyone comes in with a panel from the manga, Toriyama never did it to this degree.

This is just gross

Can Bra just die already Jesus I want her dead. Now that seemingly the Bardock visions are retconned I don’t see any reason why she can’t be killed or absorbed like she deserves.

Salagir's clearly intent on torpedoing his entire comic in the name of his Bra boner. Please, pleeeeeeease let it end.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Bardocks vision shows a Piccolo being alive later with Bra and Goku. But both Piccolos have been killed at this point.

U9 aren't that strong but they will be killed after Bra is finished here anyway so they might as well jump in and help as much as possible. They literally have nothing to lose from their perspective. Yamcha is at least over SS1 and of he can do Kaiokenx20 from there too he's a powerhouse.

They could have attacked Babidi with kienzans kikohos or used taiyokens on bra, anything. They also should have their own senzu logically but seemingly don't cuz of how they left videl.

Zen buu used up all the power no? But that's not the same thing as Bra knowing their forcefield drops when they fire (why? the beam should be able to pierce it or let it pass through on purpose) she acted like she invented the technique.

Fat buu had battle smarts and instinct when fighting Goku even if he's not literally a clever person. He's literally used healing on Dabra socwe know he has it in his arsenal. He's literally watched them scrabble round to heal each other it's not fucking difficult to figure out. Him being intial DST buu but ten years older should make him smarter if anything. It's not even altruism he has decided he's on the Vs bra team it's in his interest they win.

The cell Jrs have already been much more talkative and coherent than in canon. They were literally trying to kill Babidi just before, it was more of a leap to assume he meant bra.

These characters are being stupid and making mistakes, and that could be fine, but Bra doesn't even though she has less experience of fair fights and high stress shit than canon characters.

It will end, or turn round when babidi dies but that'll be because super buu intervened which isn't as interesting as the underdog team winning imo.

The gore is also much more selectively used in Dragon Ball. In this specific panel it helps to emphasize how cruel Vegeta is and how casually he can take life. Later, when Yamcha gets kamikaze'd, we get a relatively bloodless scene because we don't need to relearn that lesson. Instead Yamcha's death is meant to highlight just how dire the situation is.

That said, I think everyone is being a little harsh here. Fanfiction is always going to skew towards the writer's own tastes. Salagair likes violence so he's going to make it a big part of the story. Personally it's not something I'm into as I think it leads to diminishing returns, but I'm not the one making DBM.
My opinions suck. You should probably mute me to spare yourself having to see them.

Once in a blue moon gore ≠ constant, gratuitous gore on every other page. This fan manga quite obviously takes things a few steps further than Toriyama would have. Ever since Pan's neck was snapped, this manga set itself up to be excessively brutal. Which is fine...if you're into that.

I don't think the gore is constant. I think it's used pretty selectively, in this manga.

About the last gore scene, it does seem like it is there just for the sake of gore: the senzu is still intact.

Regarding the plot, how long has this Bra fight been going? it's already making the Namek fight look like Beerus vs Present Zamasu. Would it be fair to say they don't know where to go with it? I mean, how much longer can it get? I feel I've seen the same dynamic too many times, it bored me way too long ago, I don't even know how to call how I feel about it now.

Also, where is Vegito? I remember he got drawn away somehow, is he suppose to come back at some point? it's been so long I honestly can't remember.

I think the point it shows is thus: Bra's arrogance & bloodlust, and how they cloud her judgment. Fact is, that bean is a bigger threat than Piccolo. However, Piccolo bleeds and screams, while the bean doesn't. Therefore, she blew up Piccolo.

In fact, those two character flaws (arrogance & bloodlust) are why the fight is even still going. Otherwise, it would've ended 100 pages ago.

The fight with Bra has only been going on for two chapters and will most likely end this chapter. In terms of number of pages, it's shorter than Goku and Piccolo vs Raditz or Z fighters vs Nappa, and Z fighters vs 2nd form Freeza only. I get it feels longer for fans waiting as it's being released since it's a fan comic. For new readers, the fight would feel as long as it's happening in the comic and only a few minutes.

You’re right. But Toriyama image is without all the blood and most of the gore. Did you even read what I said?

Well that Piccolo is dead, there's no regeneration from that. His whole body was turned to mush.

I'm liking the Bra stuff, granted i still dont see what the point of this whole debacle on Babidi's part, he ultimately achieved nothing, well its looking that way at the moment.

I don't see much of a difference between the two. I mean, it's there, but, the difference is so slight...

Be honest: Are you sure the issue isn't just that an unlikable character is doing something awful to a likeable character?
