Goku's hair is way off in that particular picture, but that would work well for a custom cover.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
So, here's my attempt at a Dragonball Z cover done in the way which you speak- Dragonball's 'true' look:

I'll be finishing off the Ultimate Uncut Season one soon, but this new one needs people's opinion...
I prefer the UUC styles, because I love the extravagant style.

Man I love the first one.. Looks awesome You should do this one... Both Covers are nice, But the first one has more of the true DBZ look.... Is anyone going to continue the other dbz custom ones that match the DB sets???

Wow, Stevey, I like both a lot, but that one on the left is the one really shining now in comparison.

Suggestion though, is that there seems to be a bit too much negative space, and in odd locations. I'd suggest making Goku a bit bigger and centering him a bit more, and the same for the "Season One" text in the bottom banner.

Damn, Steven puts all that work into the UUC covers, and then everybody ends up drooling over the comparitively plain one that requires less effort  I mean, if you just want a plain, simple picture, then just stick with the Season Set box art since Steven's Dragon Ball style and the Orange Brick style are conceptually the similar.

I like the UUC cover more for some reason. The other cover seems empty.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I can understand the reasons for liking both of Steven's covers. The UUE version one just look awesome. Most people have said that the UUE covers were the best American covers for any of the DVD releases.

The other one reminds me a lot of the DB R2 singles. It just has a "classic" sort of feel to it which is nice too.

I agree with Raki. It's just pretty plain and empty looking. A picture of Goku on his Nimbus and that's it. Nothing particularly eye-catching about it. I mean, the actual drawing is nice looking, but that's it. As a straight up drawing, it's awesome, but as a picture, it's plain.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The UUE inspired cover just screams " I AM AN EXTREME ROCK AND ROLL ANIME! BUY ME! " as opposed to a big bold vibe of quality of which the cover on the left seems to give off. I don't know, it's hard to explain, it's simply a matter of preference really when you think about it I guess..

Beautiful stuff, man. I hope to be able to design packaging as good as that someday.

And no more arguing, this is a thread mainly for display & showing works. Let's move on.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I think that the R2-ish cover would look better if:

- Goku was in the center of the cover.
- Had the traditional DBZ logo across the top.
- The Season One-scroll in the lower center.

Kind of like this:

(Sorry for the terrible hackjob, its late. :P )

Other than that, I say both covers are pretty kick ass.

Well...these are covers I did way back when the Season One set came out. Most of you guys have already seen them:

Aside from the chopped up Dragon Ball Z logo, they look pretty good.

Where the HELL do people get those pictures from? I mean the ones that don't look like they're from the series or from the manga. You know, the ones like on the cover of Budokai 1? The ones that look like a slightly different animation. I love those, but never find them.

Most of them are from the Japanese DVD covers.

I don't know if you could consider this a cover, It's a South Park Styled one with Goku and Freeza on it. This isn't really a serious cover, but whatever:

Tell me what you think, is it clever? Annoying, do you hate it? etc.

Yeah, I went with another Death Note styled font.
