It's sort of funny how you guys ask for an opinion on why we don't like the dub and when we answer you get offended and post such sarcastic comments like you are being attacked.
Anyway I don't see where you are coming from there. How was the dub making the character more interesting? By giving him a robotic voice?
I don't really get the point you are trying to make. The sub did a great job at making 16 sound very deep and reserved.

Ya know what I like? I like Akira Toriyama's manga. It's a pretty freakin' sweet story.
And, pretty reasonably in my opinion, that means I'm far more entertained by the Japanese Dragonball products. While there are annoying fillers, dreadful inconsistences, and recycled animation in the Japanese animation, there is a soul to the characters that "translates" what is on the page.
That soul is lost in the English product. Via censorship. Via voice "acting". Via constant, unceasing noise (music and sfx).
Four years of film school and, to my personal tastes, there is no higher offense than dubbed Dragonball. To be perfectly honest, I thought DBZ was crap on Cartoon Network-- I mocked my younger brother for watching it, until one of the Pioneer handled films was shown.
The ENTIRE tone was different when the show was dubbed with a closer approximation to the original scripts and there was an allowance for silence during dramatic moments. There was true drama, and I was hooked.
Another opinion-- Goku's voice. This is the most common criticism I hear thrown at the original DBZ. While a "constipated" English kamehameha versus Nozawa's amazing scream was more than enough for me, if it isn't enough for you... watch Dragonball. And don't give me that, "but it isn't as exciting". Once you get to the World Martial Arts Tournament, it's every bit, punch for punch, as great as the later stuff. The stakes raise to a boil WAY before we learned any of the cast were aliens. And listening to the voice of Goku grow up over the years... no comparison, for me. And it's that growth of characters that got me hooked in the first place, and the reason why the manga endures.

Either way, it's probably my favorite scene in the entire anime.

Y'know what I'm not even going to respond to that because I don't want to turn this into a fight. Nevermind I said anything.

I'm not getting offended or attacking anybody, I'm simply expressing my opinoin about the character in question.

The reason I believe the dub got 16 right with the Robot voice is because it plays more on that irony.
Say you were never told 16 was pure Robot you wouldn't get the irony of his character, in the dub we know clearly he is robotic due to his voice but we are still shown that other side of him.
His voice shows no emotion but that's because he is a robot, but he still has that side of him if that makes sense.
This however is not saying that his voice is perfect, it is still annoying.

You all are acting like the voice for the Japanese android 16 sounds like a shock-jock radio host and full of human emotion. His Japanese voice does a better job at displaying he's a robot if you ask me. He barely says shit to begin with so when he does speak with this deep smooth voice you realize that he isn't really willing to talk about anything and he means business regarding his mission. Just because he is a robot doesn't mean he has to sound like a stereotypical robot. Anyway we ARE told he is robot so isn’t that point void anyway?

It was hypothetical, what if we 'weren't' told.

But the hypothetical point doesn't make sense since we WERE told thus voiding your whole point.
Fine the dub voice would be better in a hypothetical universe I'll just go ahead and give you that one then.

16 rarely speaks in the dub either. When 17 asks him something ( which I can't remember exactly ) he simply responds by saying his mission is to kill Goku. This is the only time before his fight with Cell that I can remember him talking.

Based on this page of conversation alone, this thread is SOOOO locked in the next few hours. : / Back & forth, tit for tat....
Too bad. I always like a good dub v sub debate.

Yeah back and fourth is usually how a conversation works.I can't see why it would be locked, we are all being respectful.Nobody is going "FUCK YOU FOR LIKING THE JAPANESE VERSION" and vice versa.

I wouldn't say so, I think both sides are doing a good job of presenting valid points and opinoins while keeping it clean. I'm actually pretty impressed it hasn't gotten out of hand.

Exactly, even though we have differing opinoins I haven't once thought to myself that you were a jerk or anything like that. I've actually really enjoyed discussing this subject.

Well is that the case of voices or just a good script? They could have easily ruined his character even with the best voice by making him jabber to everyone when we can't see his mouth.
