Lets suppose that during the 7 years that ChiChi had decided to remarry someone else as she assumed Goku would remain dead after the cell games.
1. How do you think things would have turned out for Goku after the Buu arc, now that his family dynamics have changed?
2. Do you think Goten would have had resentment for Goku not being there since he would have grown up with step-father that was there for him?
3.Who would Goku stay by if ChiChi would not let him live by her?
4.How do you think Gohan would have felt about having a step-dad (assuming he is a decent person) after still feeling guilt ridden of getting his dad killed?
5. Do you think Goku and ChiChi would try to share custody of Goten?

1. They would be friendly co-parents who platonically love each other. I can't imagine Chichi and Goku wouldn't still be on friendly terms. Goku might even like the new guy lol
2. Goten would have a friendly relationship with his father. Curious and shy just like he was when he originally met Goku. No resentment. His dad died, he wasn't abandoned.
3. I think he would live at Master Roshi's house and spend much more time at King Kai's world. No remarriage for Goku. Alternatively, Goku might take Grandpa Gohan's old house next door until Gohan and Videl renovate it.
4. Similar relationship he has with his father in law and the Ox King. Friendly, but not super close. Gohan loves his mom and would understand.
5. Yeah. Goku would still hang out with Goten at work, at events, and between his journeys.
Goku would step into the role of a fun divorced dad rather seamlessly. There wouldn't be resentment or drama. No one, not even Goku himself could predict he would come back to life.
Goku actually reminded me a lot of my own father after my parents got divorced. Gohan's reaction to seeing his dad after the 7 year time skip and reacting to the news that he's going to visit was the same kind of joy I felt when I would see my dad every other week, or when he would drop by unannounced. When dad was around, he was my best friend.
