Steve Simmons' and Clyde Mandelin's official subtitles on the home media releases are likely better than Crunchyroll's, but Crunchyroll's are fine.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Crunchy Roll makes a lot of needless changes to names, like calling the Mafuba the Evil Containment Wave, and only calling Kame-Sennin, Master Roshi instead of Turtle Hermit, Muten Roshi, and Old Timer when that is what he is being called. I'd watch it on Funimation.comthey are more accuarate.

Did Crunchy Roll exclusively use dub names?

It’s weird they felt the need to keep the dub name for Mafuba when half the people watching Super probably never bothered with Dragon Ball

Yeah, it did use a lot of dub names, probably to appeal to dub fans before Funimation could dub it. It was jarring going from the unofficial, somewhat more accurate fansubs to the official ones, but gotta support the official release and all that.

I mean, I sorta understand the logic, in that a lot of dub fans who would never watch the series in Japanese because “ gOku iS vOiCeD bY a wOmAn” did watch Super subbed because that was the only way to watch it for a while and it was readily available.

But also like most DBZ dub fans don’t bother with Dragon Ball (which might explain why Funimation never bothered to fix the inconsistencies between what their Z dub said and what actually happened in Dragon Ball) and I doubt they would have gotten big mad at leaving Mafuba as is
