I'll marathon about 4 episodes every few weeks.
The filler is just as boring as it ever was. It's not like I would find the 10 minute period where all the Z fighters wait for dust to clear in order to reveal final form Frieza any more exciting on DVD.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

Oh hell yeah! I remember this when it was on tv (the commercial). DAMN, it was badass then too. Now it gives me that fantastic feeling of nostalgia. I love DBZ :)

That is the true horridity of filler, that it can make even one such as I wish to not have my favorite character on-screen.

DBZ was just a fad. Naruto is just a fad. Toonami will boast the next BIG fad as the Best Action Cartoon ever, it's just how things go. You've no real reason go be betrayed, they just label all of the really popular fad cartoons as the BEST action fighting cartoon ever. Whether or not you like Naruto better than DBZ or vice versa really isn't part of the equation.

I think some of you are a little overexaggerating the "let's explain every move I make" thing with Naruto. But I see where you're coming from. But if you wanna see some real "pound your face" fighting in Naruto, then watch the Naruto vs Sasuke fight. :) I think it's better then anything in DBZ. Of course that is just one fight, and there were flash backs and emotional lines between some of it, as it is a really dramatic part of the series'.

Every shonen anime with guys punching each other will always be the best action show ever.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Just to clear some things up, I'm not really mad that the title has switched to Naruto. Its just a bit sad to see that the times are changing. I miss the good ol' days, when I'd sit and watch episodes of DBZ on Toonami right before I went off to Karate practice(I'll bet you can't guess what inspired me to take THOSE classes!)

You know I've always wanted to take a martial arts class and I never have...

I was sad back when they shoved Toonami from weekdays to Saturdays, but ironically it corrilated with me graduating from high school and going to college/getting a part-time job; so I'm not always home during the old Toonami timeslot anyway.

I'm pretty sure Yugioh was the big thing around here inbetween Dragon Ball and Naruto; you couldn't buy a Shounen Jump without seeing Yugi's face plastered all over it. o_O (and short of the first several, pre-card-game chapters, I never understood the allure of that show either).

I don't know if a younger me would've enjoyed Naruto, or if age has anything at all to do with it. Then again I didn't "get" Harry Potter back when it first came out and I still don't "get" it today; so its probably more of a personality thing.

Cartoon Network is doing what they have to do to secure an audience. CN needs something, it's not like people are watching the shows they make. They could call Naruto the greatest piece of animation ever, and I could care less.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I don't think the younger me would have gotten anything besides DBZ.
I wouldn't have had the attention span for any other story.
Dragonball(Z) was pretty simple, which is one of the reasons I could get into it so easily.

You know its strange, the flashbacks on Naruto drive me crazy, I can't stand them. It's partially why I stopped watching it.
Yet I love LOST which is full of flashbacks (and recently flashforwards) every episode.
Is it the writing style?

I actually found an old post I made on another dbz-related forum from 2004 where I mentioned being unable to get into Naruto (the manga), so it looks like it isn't an "age" thing at all.

Maybe it's just that ninjas aren't your thing? :)

I was able to watch and mostly enjoy the first arc (the one with Zabuza and Haku) but once they started doing their "tournaments" and bringing out everybody's angsty past, repeatedly, I sorta lost interest.

So, I like ninjas, I just can't handle that the overwhelming amount of angst that seems to follow 99% of the characters in this show.
I mean, I don't expect them all to have happy childhoods because they just came off of some long civil ninja war, right? But instead of hanging onto the bad times and clinging to them (which some, not all of the characters do) I'd think it would be healthier to move on and think of the present/future. You never get anywhere if all you're consumed with is revenge. :?

Also, not a fan of what the villages did to toddlers like Naruto and Gaara. The whole "let's stick the giant monster inside a baby" thing. It just kind of disgusted me and I was happy when I saw an episode where Naruto himself lashed out at somebody (I forget who) that doing that to people is wrong.
I mean, they stick these "jinchuuriki" (sp?) into these orphaned babies and then as they grow up, either don't tell them about the monster inside of them or treat the child poorly. :(
On hiatus.

The Lost flashbacks and forwards aren't things that we just saw one or two episdoes ago. And usually they include something that are really relevant to the entire story. The Naruto ones are just a means for explaining that paricular character and all of then, except for a couple, you don't really need to know and don't really matter. And they show up in the middle of a decent fight that you are much much more interested in.

Not much of a fan of Naruto I have been on and of it for a while now where I absolutely love it or absolutely hate it. The only character i actually like is Rock Lee as he has a decent backstory, and in my earlier Naruto days it was Sasuke but he's just for the fangirls now.

I grt more mad at their cutting Toonami back by two hours for Goosebumps and to whore out Scooby some more. I like Scooby as much as the next person, but do they need to show it all the time?

Speaking of the first post's mention of Mr. Cullen's announcements, found these old character commercials I never saw before, that they did similar to the ones they used to do for Tenchi, Gundam Wing, and Outlaw Star:

Those promos are wierd, they have clips from the Ocean AND the FUNi dub. This is especially aparrent in the Vegeta one when he speaks it is Ocean but at the end and the beginning when he is transforming that is definately Sabat's scream.

Would they be like that because it was before FUNi did the a re-dub of those first couple of seasons?

Actually back around that time, I thought of making a video similar to that of clips of both voices. One idea I had was showing Vegeta blast someone starting with Mr. Drummond saying, "Now it's time to send you to..." then intercut Mr. Sabat saying, "Hell."
