Just something I happened to notice

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Naruto's not without it's flaws, either. You do realize how insanely many flashbacks this show has, right? I've seen them have 10-minute long, in-episode flashbacks of things that happened two episodes ago.

Given the choice, I'll take DBZ's staring sessions, which their frequency or severity really are pretty exaggerated when people talk about them.
I've seen them have 5 minute long flashbacks on things that happened in that episode.

And yeah, the greatest action cartoon thing is just marketing, not a review or a promise of some sort.

Ahhh I miss the days when Optimus Prime did our promos 8)

As for the anime market decline? If that is happening, I would blame the cost of anime. Maybe it is just my area, anime is ridiculously priced. Every time a new DVD comes out, you can go to a number of places at launch and get it for $10-20, but anime DVD's premiere at $25-40. If you shop around you can find good prices, but the SRP is crazy. Although, when it comes to "seasons" this stuff is starting to get better. I remember when a standard anime season set or series was like $100-150 (compared to $40-80 for a comparable amount of US television).

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

In a way it seems to me like the choice in what anime gets to become the next big thing over here is always predicated solely upon how much of a chance it has at becoming the next DBZ or Pokemon-esque phenomenon. It seems like almost the entire anime industry has been becoming slowly and steadily built upon competing and vying desperately for this one lone goal… and the end result (at least for me personally) is that the genre selection of shows and movies that get major U.S. shelf lives grow to become increasingly repetitive, derivative, and tiresome as all hell.
I mostly blame the internet for shows like Inuyasha, Naruto, Bleach and others like them for gaining success. Take it that I like those shows and find them somewhat entertaining, but they aren't as groundbreaking as some fans claim them to be. Viz seems to be taking a hold of this, and are making a killing off of it. I am glad for Buso Renkin being brought over, and the Gintama manga series{crosses fingers for the anime}. But with that comes the possibility of Viz taking over the manga and anime industry, which is a bad thing IMO. As we all know, Viz censores many of their titles, something I hate. I think we all need to do our part in seeing that a variety of shows gain popularity, and not just a select few.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

The first time you're exposed to something makes it groundbreaking to you. I think what happens is that most people are used to the American form of animation which is supposedly only for young children. And in order for you to have to find that balance and common ground where it can be shown to kids and at the same time have content that adults will like.

With anime, it's all for everyone and the culture allows for children to be exposed to content that American shows would only use for adults. Then when these adults see certain anime, that are pretty average for anime, it seems like so much more to them.

Kinda like how Twilight Princess is my first legend of Zelda game and I thought it was really amazing but after speaking with Zelda veterans I found out that out of the whole franchise it's rather average. This didn't make me like it less, it just let me know how it stands against everything else.

Ah, those Toonami promos really bring back the memories, definitely the best action block ever. I was really sad when I heard CN was cutting it from the weekday afternoon time slot, I really think that Naruto and (especially) One Piece would have worked much better at that time.

As far as "best action cartoon ever" goes, I guess its kinda like a throne that gets passed on over years. We may feel a little wierd about Dragonball's de-throning, just think about how the Naruto fans will feel when the next big Shonen anime takes the title.

Censoring is only done on the Jump line and Zatch Bell. They showed a couple doing it in Maison Ikkoku.

I know its really horrible that they took DBZ off  It's not so bad now that I have the boxset, but before then I was constantly watching video tapes recorded from the TV; Often missing some episodes when the darned things went wrong, and having to fast-forward the adverts...

I think they should start to show the un-cut episodes, but with a much later time slot; If not, then they should bring back the afternoon slot and take out some of the rubbish that they seem to thrive in showing :x

LONG LIVE DRAGONBALL Z! ALL HAIL AKIRA TORIYAMA!
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)

They did run DBZ uncut in 2005. It was Season 1 and 2 of the Ultimate Uncut stuff. I have it on tape.
