Is anyone still holding out for a new HD remaster from TOEI?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Again, you're missing the point. It was not cheaper.

All evidence points to the Season BDs being more expensive to produce than the Levels; they still used the same remastering process as the Levels, just with shitty filtering afterwards, and the additional step of someone (who had to be paid) manually cropping every shot to widescreen.

This is the third time I've said this. I don't know how I can make this clearer.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Ok, it seems i just keep misunderstanding the process or something. It in fact is effectively the same base remaster, they just smeared the image to oblivion and cut the frame down to a fake widescreen image only instead of a center crop this time doing it selectively a la Kai in Japan on the TV broadcast.
DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

Yes, that's right. :)

The really frustrating part is, if Funimation saw fit to provide us with a proper successor to the Levels, they could easily give it to us, and they could have done that for the Season BDs or the 30th sets. Instead, for the seasons, Funi decided to instead smear the video and crop it, and then for the 30th sets, they decided to remove the crop but keep the smear.

Indeed, and that's the biggest travesty of all this. They definitely could've done that in either of those releases, but rather deciding to needlessly filter the image into a de grained, watercolor-ey mess and on the former chop off the top and bottom of the picture a la the Orange Bricks because apparently in their minds this seems better when actually it's not the case and just results in the product looking worse visually.

The Level sets didn't flop, that was always fan assumption with no basis in facts. The reality is, it's far more likely they sold so much better than they were expecting that Funi's higher-ups decided to re-strategise and do a proper successor to the Orange Brick DVDs rather than sell the Levels, which were marketed as being a high-quality collectors' product more akin to the US Dragon Boxes.

Long explanation:
Thanks for the info. Guess I learned a new angle to view it. Knowing Funi your explanation actually does not sound unusual of them.
First time Dragon Ball fan as of March 2020. Still learning the ropes. Nothing much else to say,

Would love to see it but don’t think it will happen. They did Kai which created a new remastered series in line with the current series canon established with BoG/RoF and Super and I think that’s the only thing we’ll ever see. At this point the original DB/Z/GT run is probably to them a legacy product and Kai/Super is considered to be the current official and canonical series. Hopefully I’m wrong about my prediction.
