Do The Fans Have Any Power?

Post by TheGreatness25 » Thu May 29, 2008 12:38 am

Hello. I was wondering if anyone truly believes that the fans have any power over FUNimation's releases. Now I'm not talking about bombarding FUNimation with rants about how they should redub the entire series, because lets get real, they would never do that. And they would not cut their Season Sets either. I'm talking about legitimately trying to convince FUNimation to release the rest of the "Vegeta Saga II" and Namek Sagas in box-sets. Now box-sets are important because releasing them one at a time would take 5 years for FUNimation.

See, as a fan, I feel truly cheated that I own the whole entire series in 4:3, and yet there is a HUGE gap before Goku even begins fighting Vegeta, and Goku fighting Burter and Jeice (not counting the Ocean dub Pioneer DVDs that I have).

Do you think that collectively, and politely, if fans were to try to Email FUNimation about possibly releasing the Vegeta Saga II (so some would have 2 DVDs extra, big deal) and Namek Saga box-sets, maybe even perhaps with a Season 6 or Season 7 release, that FUNimation would go for it? Like if lets say a bunch of people would Email them with the same topic and the same letter that they'd listen? What do you think?

By the way, feel free to discuss anything involving FUNimation and fan's power. Just because I'm specific with the Ultimate Uncut line, doesn't mean that everyone is limited to talking about that.

I do think that if the fan community was able to organize with the coherence that I think you're thinking of, then maybe FUNi would listen, but it would take much more that a bunch of nine year olds (there's one born every day!) to sign an online petition or put their name on a pre-written letter and send it.

I sent a letter like many people here did, but I doubt we (we, as in, the people of this forum) are a strong enough force to fight it. I would love it if they finished the UUEs. It would be a very nice bone thrown to the fans by FUNi.

The only other problem with this is that the other full screen DVDs are already discontinued, so people like myself who only started buying Z with these season sets, not because of their price and definitely not because of the remastering, but because there are only going to be about nine sets to purchase and then I'm done, would have a problem tracking down the DVDs after the Namek arc because they aren't being made, but the season sets are.

And yes, I realize that I'm being hypocritical in saying that I want change but am buying these sets anyway, so no one has to throw any remarks about how "I'm playing into their hands" like I've heard (well, read) other members say. I'm well aware of the fact.

Well no point trying to get them to get the Dragonbox to use for the dubbing let along make certain characters like Toei and Toriyama made them instead of what a fucking 13 yr old fangirl made them *cough*Yamcha*cough*

At least they made Chichi take a more mothery tone than the oringal bitch tone when she was arguing with Goku.

Like rather than an online petition, maybe something that would get their attention a bit more? See, a petition is just one letter with a bunch of names on it. But if, for example, everyone who were to sign the petition would send them an identical letter with an identical title (so there's much more than just one letter), maybe that might catch their attention? Thing is, if many people tell them how unfair they're being, then maybe they might listen. Make it polite and non-threatening to their Season Sets. Remind them that they already released the "Remastered" version of the Sagas a year ago, so if they release the 4:3, it would have no impact on sales.

Is it so much to ask to be able to see the whole show in frickin' 4:3? Is that so difficult? I don't care if it's too bright, or has grain, or anything. I can look at an image of the Dragon Box and tinker around with my TV's contrast, brightness, and sharpness until it looks more or less the same. I just want it in frickin 4:3! If I were to go and show the series to someone, I want them to see it the way it was meant to be seen. I have the entire Dragon Ball series in 4:3. Then, I have DBZ in 4:3 (not counting the Ocean dub DVDs that I have, just to keep the continuity) up until even before Goku arrives to fight Nappa and Vegeta... Then the next in 4:3 I have is Goku fighting Burter and Jeice... That means I'd have to show the in between either in the Ocean dub version, or the stupid Wide Screen crap. Either way, it would be stupid. I don't care what FUNimation does, I don't care what they promise fans, I don't care how they hype up their crap, all I want from them is to finish off Ultimate Uncut. Frickin FUNimation, is that so much to ask?

I think that there is a small chance that we could convince Funimation to re-re-re-release the Vegeta and Namek Saga's but it would take a lot of intelectual requests by us fans.

I have tried on many occasions to contact Funimation and voice my request's but their forum is said to be the only way to get their contact information and it is always down. So if any knows how to contact Funimation (e-mail, snail mail, phone, ect.) I would greatly appreciate the oppurtunity to help try and pursuade funimation into producing some Dragonball material that we can truely enjoy.

Best I know is through Email:

support@funimation.com

But I've tried like 4 times with no response from them.

I hope they get bombarded with Ultimate Uncut requests. In BOX-SETS. I mean it took them like a year to release them individually. Screw that.

Have any of their execs, or anyone with some kind of power or influence, done any public appearances? Maybe if we got a good sized, peaceful, orderly group to go see them with a petition of Names with addresses or phone numbers, and tried to reason with them in a none threatening manner.

It would have been done if they didn't wait so long.

Funimation's forum is back up: http://community.funimation.com/ , and from what I hear, they actually do read the forum. This is based on the commentary from the One Piece dvd set. The only problem I see is that the fanbase is too divided to get anything going. You have people that are satisfied with the season sets, so don't count on them to be down for anything.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I meant to add at the end of my last post that if at the very least iof FUNi could set up an option at their site to purchase the discs directly from them. where they could make a batch or just for each person that wants one. Or Have people place the order and have it be listed as backordered, then when they get enough orders to justify the production of them, they can make them.

Actually a lot of things should be done this way. Hard to find movies, TV shows, videogames and such.

Hmm... Might as well give the FUNimation Forums a go.

But if they read them, and people there have some sort of voice, and they're still screwing up DBZ... I think I'm afraid to go there.

Bunch of FUNimation marks over there? The ones that praise them for everything they do? Like if they were to change the colors of DBZ to make Goku's uniform purple and Super Saiyan hair into red, people over there would claim it looks better?

One more thing. Can someone link me to their stupid Forums? I went on their site and you can't find ANYTHING on it.

Don't know about power, but would say as the stuff is being bought I'd say DBZ fans aren't like the hypocritical Yu-Gi-Oh fans who complained about wanting dual-language releases, didn't buy them and thus led to them being discontinued.

Maybe those fans did buy them.
but the 6 yr olds that 4kids wanted to sell them too said "OH WTF, I ALREADY HAVE THE DUELLIST KINGDOM SAGA, I DON'T NEED THAT  "
and thus 4kids heard them over the satisfied fans and decided "WHAT THE HELL, SCREW UNCUT, LET'S JUST CONTINUE TO WRITE SHADOW REALM, NO BOOBS, AND VERY OOC CHARACTERS, BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY THE FANS LIKE IT." and discontinued it.

The fans don't have any power, they just assume what the fans want and do it.

However, mostly they focus on what general fans want, and not what the hard-core fans do. I want them to release Dragon Ball seasons like this, but I'm not sure if that will happen.

I'm serious. Not that many people bought them.

Their forums is a mixed bag. You have really intelligent fans over there, and then you have casual fans who love the season sets. One of the younger fans was actually complaning about the new Case Closed sets that are coming out. He said we didn't need any and cried like a baby until he was banned.
