Freeza's Japanese voice is actually menacing & totally evil, unlike the English voice, where Linda Young does a decent job, but she doesn't inspire terror in the characters like Ryusei Nakao does. Linda Young is more suited to a wicked-witch-type character than a genocidal, paranoid, maniac like Freeza.
Watch the episode where Piccolo fuses w/ Nail in Japanese and you'll hear this really low hiss/roar sound comes from Freeza when he powers up. Combined with the voice acting and the music, that scene really gives off an ominous feeling. That's why I like Japanese DBZ more.
That and I love Masako Nozawa's upbeat, overly-excited Goku voice, I could seriously listen to her talk as Goku all day.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight
Goku's SSJ3 music made me cringe. The TV was on minute after I listened to it for a good minute.NeptuneKai wrote:Sun_Wukong wrote:I guess you like nails on a chalkboard as well?jjgp1112 wrote:And I actually like Bruce Falcouner's score even more than the Japanese one. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I don't mind The Falcouner's score that much, to be honest. There are bits I like (Cell's theme), bits I don't care for (any "Happy we're home!" sorta theme - they're terribly lame and chime-y), and most of it I'm indifferent to. Menza's score on the other hand? I downright loathe it. Trying to watch the UUE dub made me almost throw up. But it's always better with the Japanese music. That's why, to me, Dragon Ball has the perfect dub. And that's my favorite of the trilogy anyway.
I wouldn't call Bruce Falconer's plunking around on a keyboard, or virtual guitar a score. I'd expect someone with multiple degrees in music to know something about building and releasing tension. There are so many problems with what Falconer does. To compare Bruce Falconer to Shunsuke Kikuchi is like comparing Razor Blades to Oranges sure both are edible, but in the end one of them nourishes you while the other leaves you in a quivering mound of eviscerated flesh.jjgp1112 wrote:I actually like Bruce Falcouner's score even more than the Japanese one. This reminds me of a Japanese friend I had in highscool. I had a tape that was filled with Japanese episodes (long before DVDs) of Dragonball Z, and I let my friend Shun borrow it. He came back the next day and said, "Freeza sounds like a gay man". It was awesome.FindKenshi wrote:What was your thoughts on the Japanese Freeza?
No. I have an opinion. I like Falcouner's music more than the Japanese version, you feel the opposite way. Let's leave it at that.Sun_Wukong wrote:I guess you like nails on a chalkboard as well?jjgp1112 wrote:And I actually like Bruce Falcouner's score even more than the Japanese one. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
