Any official source what year Dragon Ball takes place?
I was wondering is there any official source that shows what year each saga takes place? Like an example what year the Saiyan Saga, Android Saga, etc?
Re: Any official source what year Dragon Ball takes place?
You can find it in the guidebooks, Daizenshuu and Chozenshuu.
Time placement also appears occasionally in some events plastered to a wall or something. Can't provide an image since I'm on cellphone, but surely you can find it or someone can post it here.
It may also appear on websites, like "Dragon Ball SSSS". But that one doesn't exist anymore.

Daizenshuu 7 includes Dr. Slump events in the timeline, and Dr. Slump uses the western calendar and took place in 1980 in the beginning. So that means Dragon Ball starts in the same year it was published - 1984. As of Super, it's in like, 2016 I think.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

There's already a thread using the real world calendar, in case you're interested.

2012-2014(?)- Dragon Ball Super
2017- End of Z
Bump the 22nd TB - Cyber Frieza a year (so 1988-98 rather than 87-97), because the 21st TB is in 750 (85). And the Android saga takes place in 767 (2002), Buu Saga 2009, Super 2013-15. In fact, I'm almost certain I read somewhere that Toei picked the specific year for Battle of Gods because it lined up to 2013.

Namely Bulma said she was on summer vacation in the manga and only had a month to find the Dragon Balls meaning we can pretty much pinpoint the story starting in August. And since Kame Sennin training was like 8 months before the tournament it would have to be 1985 by that point
Re: Any official source what year Dragon Ball takes place?
You also have to bump Trunks' arrival a year, though that depends on how you interpret the narration after the timeskip - "A Year has passed" as in cumulatively and including the 260 days spent on revivals, or "A year has passed" as in a year after the Namekians leave? Toei and Shueisha interpreted it as the latter. While Gohan's stated age in the Buu saga (16) indicates Tori saw it as the former, the Daizenshuu finesses the timeline so that Gohan is just a month and change away from his 17th birthdayMasenkoHA wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:46 pmI edited it when I realized certain things didn’t check outjjgp1112 wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:43 pmSlightly off -MasenkoHA wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:35 pm

Oh you’re right.
I think that’s also why Toei ran with Gohan being 10 during the Cell saga (with Chi Chi deciding he was 11 because of his year spent in the Room of Spirit and Time)
It’s likely Gohan’s birthday is sometime in May with the Buu saga presumably starting in April at the beginning of the school year.
