Were Movies 10 and 11 a total waste?

Post by Raki » Sun Jun 01, 2008 3:46 pm

Looking back at Movies 10 and 11, were they wasted on Broly? It sucks that the Broly character was that popular for Toei to make more films about him. Those films could have been used to introduce new movie characters. Broly was good for Movie 8, but everything after that was just overkill.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I liked movie #10 for about half of the it, especially the half when Gohan showed up. There are a few hilarious scenes and some good action. But as far as the stories in both movies goes, then yes, I feel they were kind of poor attempts at bringing the Legendary Super Saiya-jin back to life. Movies #10 and #11 could've been made for two new villains, but no. We got what we got. A shame, really.

Movie 10+
Movie 11-

10 was good because it showed post cell goahn NOT being great saiyaman. it is like he loses power when he is in that uniform. Plus we got to see Krillin in the piccolo outfit AND the triple kamehameha.

I agree that movies 10 and 11 are completely un-needed (especially 11) but if it was add those two or add nothing, i would have rather had those two than end the series with 11 movies, the more the better! :D

I lovee Movies 10 and 11, they're easily in my top 3, if not my top 2. But I do think a new villain would have been a good thing, since I hate Broly.

I have a fondness for movie 10, because it was my first exposure to Japanese Dragonball. It had to have been around '97 or so, when I was on the phone with my then girlfriend and she said she had an awesome surprise. She then torqued her TV just in time for Broly to scream "KAKAROTTO!" like a madman. It was awesome. She then brought over a couple of tapes (remember THOSE!?) that included all three of the Broly movies, the tree flick, and the Bojack movie in raw Japanese. Good times!

Having watched movie10 in Japanese a couple days ago, I can confidently say that it wasn't a waste at all.
But, I can also say that such had absolutely nothing to do with Broli. Broli in movie10 was just the challenge that needed overcoming. What made the movie was the good guys, not the villain; Broli worked only because he was insane and lost what intelligence he had in movie8 (fight+comet+ice+psychopath... equals brain damage?), which means that the movie had not only fanservice to Broli fanboys, but it didn't waste time with the villain's motives and character, and instead focused on Goten, Trunks, Videl, and Gohan (and I was pleasantly surprised by not only Kuririn's screentime, but his VA's performance...).
... and Goten and Gohan are awesome.
Haven't seen movie11, though. I know that it's focus is mainly Goten and Trunks against a different kind of enemy (which is somehow the same one...), but that alone isn't quite enough... I guess I'll have to find it and find out.

In conclusion? "Boku Goten!"

I love Movie 10, it's hysterical. Goten crying to get food cracks me up every time. Honestly, I'd say 10 is my favorite Broly movie, because it's half a Dragon Ball-esque silly adventure, and half a bad ass Gohan movie.

As for movie 11, I've always have the distinct feeling that the producers were making fun of themselves. I mean, the whole movie is essentially a comedy, right?

Yeah, I like those movies. With the super serious nature of the Cell-era, I like how the Buu-era and it's movies get more light-hearted and fun.

I watched all three Broly movies recently, I do think that Movie 10 was the best of the three, but I also think that Broly only needed one feature, I would have rather had some new villains, or storylines taking more advantage of the Boo arc (more mystical in nature etc).

12 and 13 are mythical in nature, but more in that vein certainly would've been appreciated!

Actually, I liked Movie 10 even better than the first Brolly movie. I never made it all the way through Movie 11, though. I wasn't real interested in seeing it at the time.

If I ranked all the movies from 1-12 I would rank movie 10 and 11 on the bottom. Since the main character (Goku) is dead in those movies, the action just doesn't all feel there. But I really do like the song BIG FIGHT!(if that's not the complete name, I'm sorry I don't know it) at the end of movie 10.

It would be movies #4 and #11 at the bottom for me.

I just finished watching movie #10 again, and I have to say. I appreciate it a lot more than I did before. It's not a bad movie at all.

Movie 10 was OK. I liked the Goten/Trunks/Videl stuff the best. Kuririn-Piccolo was hilarious. I first saw most of the DBZ movies as part of a daylong marathon in my college's anime club, and that scene made the whole auditorium roar with laughter.

Movie 11 made half the audience go on a snack run. Though Mr. Satan WAS funny, and more Goten/Trunks is never a bad thing...

I liked the endings of both movies.
Both movies are okay, and different from the others.

I can't think about movie 11 without remembering that one scene where they gave Krillin a golden aura. SSj Krillin! :D

I know he is dead in Movies 9 and 12. But I liked movie 9 a lot because it actually followed the time line. Movie 12 Goku is the main character and he is dead, so that was a better one too.

In my 10+ years being a DB fan I have never seen movie 11 and never will. Its the one movie I refuse to watch because I've heard nothing good about it.

Movie 10 was ok, not good not bad

I got movie 11 for 7 bucks at Wal-Mart and watched it knowing full well what people were sayin about it.

I actually enjoyed it. The humor made me laugh and Broly barely even played a part in it. Hell, it's easy to pretend Broly wasn't in the movie at all.

So unless you're one of those "OH MY GOD BROLY IS SO AWESOME *ORGASM*" people, it's a perfectly enjoyable feature, in my opinion.
