So...Gokuism. Your thoughts on it?
Apparently, Gokuism is defined as "the belief that the principles of Dragon Ball provide a moral compass for one’s life, and that Goku is an ideal role model and moralistic person." This is from the Dao of Dragon Ball, and - okay, time to give my two cents on this.
THIS IS THE STUPIDEST FUCKING RELIGION I'VE EVER HEARD OF SINCE JEDIISM.
But what do you guys think? Talk about it in future replies! (Link to the Dao of Dragon Ball post: https://thedaoofdragonball.com/blog/spi ... h-of-goku/)

This stuff is nothing new. It's just people using a fictional character to inform their own life principles. Like Dudeism, based on the Dude from The Big Lebowski. Or Christianity, based on Jesus from the Bible.

I denounce it, I'm a humble follower of the Church of Holy Zamasu.

Akira Toriyama, DBS vol.4 joint interview with ToyotaroAt his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

Isn't this technically worshipping the Monkey King?

Yeah, mankind is over. Enjoying things has destroyed us completely, we're no longer relevant.Goku da Silva wrote: Sun Oct 10, 2021 8:51 pm Welcome to the twenty first century, a time when mankind has no real purpose...Too much pop culture.
On the plus side, womankind and nonbinarykind are just fine, so all we have to do is topple the patriarchy (long behind schedule on that one tbh) and humanity will be right as rain.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

But yeah, I don't generally buy into "the present is the worst time ever and the current generation is the worst bunch of people ever" messages of any sort. I was thinking about my own 2017 experience a few days ago (it was an interesting year since I moved out of my parents' house and into my own home for the first time the February of that year) and noted how even memories of such a recent year were somewhat faded and had a strong positivity bias to them. I tended to remember the times where I was enjoying myself for whatever reason, not the countless mundane hours or days that I spent depressed or feeling bitter or shitty or miserable. If my narrative of only four years ago filters out a great many details besides the positive or otherwise interesting stuff, I dunno how accurately we can judge the 20th century when almost nobody on Daizex existed at all outside of its final two decades. (Not to say you can't accurately judge the past at all ever, but certain things can, sometimes, obscure it.)

Well at least the Jedi don't advocate putting the world/universe in danger just for the sake of an exciting fight.FPSSJ4_Goku wrote: Sat Oct 09, 2021 5:59 pm Apparently, Gokuism is defined as "the belief that the principles of Dragon Ball provide a moral compass for one’s life, and that Goku is an ideal role model and moralistic person." I feel like "religions" such as this and Jediism and all that inherently come with a tongue-in-cheek-ness to them, so they're probably fine. Like, nobody actually believes that these are real things, but maybe the people who follow them have an appreciation for many of the values reflected by these properties so they have fun with this faux-religious devotion to them. It's just a comically exaggerated version of regular fandom from what I can tell, so as long as they maintain a sense of self-awareness about it I see it as harmless fun.
