The beam probably slows down as it approaches its destination in order to not cut, in this case, the Earth in half.

It has to slow down significantly before it reaches Earth yes.

At the very least Dyspo was said to be faster than light and Golden Frieza was faster than him. So Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta should be.

You guys do know what being actually faster than light would entail, not just for travel speed but also if used for fighting.

Not quite sure what you're getting at here but trying to apply real-world physics to an anime with time travel and ki blasts is completely ridiculous. Ok, everyone would be massless and would basically not perceive time at that speed. What's your point?

That moving faster than light would be mostly ireleveant in an actual fight when you are so close to your opponent. You would need to be the size of Gurren Lagaan for it to even matter.

That was a mistranslation, as "high" and "light" share one of their pronunciations in Japanese.
Goku has learned how to dodge lightning since climbing to Kami's Lookout in DB. It's ridiculous to think they're slower than light by Super or even Z.

That was filler. Dyspo was said to surpass both sound and light. Obviously they've all surpassed sound but Dyspo was the first to be said to surpass light.
Doesn't mean he was actually the first to be faster but it should mean anyway faster than him is light speed too.
They could have surpassed light back in Z as well but at worst Blue level is past light.

Too lazy to verify so I'll take your word.
But it is super weird then. That statement wouldn't make sense power scaling wise.

I would say with the narrator saying that Dsypo was able to move at the speed of light. The pre-Super DB characters are probably at relativistic+ based on Gotenks speed feat.

In terms of travel speed, the earliest character that can move FTL is Namek arc Final Form Freeza. In terms of combat speed though, Raditz is the first.

That was a dub line from the 1996 Funimation dub. Raditz was never faster than the speed of light.

I didn't base my statement on any dub lines, I based it on feats. For instance, Piccolo was able to casually blow up the Moon in 2 to 4 seconds with a regular Ki blast. It takes light 1.5 seconds to travel from Earth to the Moon. Piccolo would later then use the much stronger and faster Special Bean Cannon on Raditz, which Raditz was able to point-blank dodge at the last instance the first time. Based on that feat, its reasonable to claim that DB characters reach FTL combat speeds (though not travel speeds) around the Saiyan Saga.

It's hard to say.
Dragon Ball isn't like an American comic, which stresses the importance of feats. I would say it's open to interpretation.

I don't think all ki blasts move at the same speed otherwise normal people would not see them if they were faster than light.

I would say just because some ki attacks look like some laser light or flash, it doesn’t mean they are as fast as light.
Actually, Dyspo is the first one to have actually reach that kind of feat (and even that is anime-only). I would argue Jiren and Ultra Instinct Goku may be comparable.

You can measure how fast an attack is by seeing how fast it gets from A to B. For example, Piccolo blowing up the Moon in a few seconds is an almost FTL feat. There's plenty of other feats & statements throughout the Z anime, Super in general and to a lesser extent the original manga that go beyond that, so the notion that Dyspo is the first FTL character makes zero sense, especially when there's characters in the ToP itself shown to be faster than him.

How maybe Whis' travel beam has no friction or force to it so he doesn't have to worry about accidentally blowing up the Earth.

Anyone who's ever done boxing or MMA before will tell you that the speed of your attacks and reactions actually matters more the closer you are to your opponent, not less.
