I find it weird that in the panel they said the movie animation and voice work is still being finished. If that stuff is not done yet why are they releasing so soon?

Production schedules suck because the people who make films have zero ability to decide how long it takes to make said film. They are at the whims of wealthy executives.

They really think that everyone would want to watch and praise this movie. When they hardly know much about it am I assuming that this has something to do with the Granolah arc? This is just getting ridiculous the animation I don’t even know where to start with that

I think it's not about being consistent with any in-universe explanation: as you said it yourself, it's purely a retcon, a visual one which is not to be acknowledged story-wise, with the viewers having to adapt the vision they had so far (which is the way retcons work anyway).

Just like there will be no explanation for Piccolo's arms being changed, or for Krilin now having white eyes like the other characters, or Bulma suddenly having pure blue hair in Super (which include her as a baby before Z and as a post-Z adult) instead of Z's greenish tint.

So there won't be any "back to purple" for the tournament and there might not ever be a retelling either, just like the way they implied that Future Trunks always had blue hair despite what you can see in Z episodes.

Retcons imply no in-universe explanation compared to the previous choices, whether it's a story retcon or a visual retcon. For better or worse, it just implies "correct the information you currently have into the latest update we tell/show you, because we think it's better that way after all".
You can bet they'll always go with the current visual representation being what the character always was all along and always will be.

I see where you're coming from, but I'd still prefer this situation to be better handled. We are talking about a simply hair color change, there is absolutely no need to deal with it the way they are dealing, when you could simply acknowledge such change through a casual conversation that doesn't even require to be all that long. "Hey Trunks, did you dye your hair?" - "Yeah, I got envy of your blue-haired Super Saiyan, so I decided to dye it blue too!" (everybody laughs!). As simple as that, way better than this needless retcon (doing black and white flashbacks and outright showing Z Trunks with blue hair).

Either that or this headcanon I'm seeing now that Trunks hair changes to blue (maybe naturally) once he reaches his teenager years. Though that would cause another issue...

Not really. Unlike Piccolo, who always had those yellow parts, Trunks hair in the manga and in Dragon Ball Online is purple. So in Trunks' case, it constitutes a retcon.

I think they'll go back to Piccolo having pink parts if the anime comes back and/or in the next movie. But I'd say we are stuck with blue-haired Trunks from now on. If Toriyama plays the same role as he did in Dragon Ball Super (that is, not being too much involved with the anime production), then maybe Toei will stick to lilac hair.

Man, Goten and Trunks look GOOD! Honestly, I'm less bothered by Trunks' hair color than I am surprised that Goten appears to be getting Gohan's Cell Games haircut.

All this said, I REALLY hope they can give them their personalities from EOZ, ESPECIALLY Goten. Now that he's older, I'd prefer his personality not simply be a mix of Goku and Gohan.

Nice, I was expecting to see Goten and Trunks aged up. I love their designs, as I love 18’s new design.

There’s a great EoZ vibe which makes me hyped for the movie and, above all, for what’s next. Will we finally get Goku in his EoZ uniform by the end of this? Will we finally get past EoZ into uncharted territory? I hope so, and the hints are there, especially if we think about the role Uub got in the previous manga arc with the foreshadowing of his return at the end.

So... was there any new information revealed about the plot? You know, the aspect of the movie that is meant to generate interest? No? Then I'm still not interested in this movie at all. I'm getting heavy Ressurection F vibes with this movie feeling like a redundant exercise of the cast in a no-stakes conflict.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about Goten and Trunks ageing up, especially given how poorly they've been written in Dragon Ball content for over twenty years. In fact, I get the feeling from the key visual that there may be some gag involving them fucking up the fusion dance and preventing them from being involved in the main conflict and/or comically underperforming as a whole.

Toriyama's manga colors were purple for both Bulma and Trunks (nevermind the first few chapters of the og manga). But since Trunks is supposed to have his mother's hair color, and I guess because blue Bulma is the standard anime Bulma, he chose blue for both. He did him blue in design sheets since Battle of Gods.

In earlier interviews the he said that Toriyama already began writing this story like right after the release of Broly in theaters. Unless he influenced it mid writing it seems weird for him to mention it in such a way.

Because the they tried to finish episodes of Super as soon as Kai was done, their scheduling for Dragon Ball Super was bad enough that we got shit like episode 5. Their schedules are shit and they have a habit of rushing episodes. IMO, they should've waited a year at minimum, and a year and a half at MAX after Kai ended to start working on Super. We'd probably have gotten higher quality episodes then, and maybe we could've gotten a seasonal run of Dragon Ball Super.

The promotion for this movie does kinda suck. I don't want them to go overboard like they did with Broly and pretty much reveal everything in the trailers and TV spots, but this movie is 2 months away and we've been shown the same scenes since NY Comic Con back in October. I was really hoping for some kind of story trailer that gave us an idea of the "slice of life" stuff that they've been talking about, what exactly the RR Army are planning and show Gohan being the main character.

I really want to get excited for this movie but they're making it difficult with the lacklustre promotion. How many times do I have to see Piccolo quickly turn his head followed by an explosion? I was so convinced that they were going to finally stop drip feeding us info and actually start showing off new footage during this event.

Either they're intentionally keeping everything else a secret so we can all be surprised when we watch the film OR (and I really hope this isn't true) they can't show anything else because the footage straight up isn't even close to being finished yet.

Pretty much sums up what’s happening all these fanservice feels distracting somehow. I get there’s a pandemic but i didn’t think it was this bad.
