It probably won't, and I think that's the problem. On its own, its a nice development for Goku to actually have repressed memories of his parents, but within the arc? Within the franchise itself? It feels all a little too late. Like Dragon Ball doesn't really do introspection, and the fleeting moments that Super has flirted with stuff like that are really, really basic. So I don't think it really matters in the long run, nor will it cause any real impact on Goku as a character.emperior wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 1:13 pm Wow, now that is interesting. I actually was hoping for such a thing to happen in Broly, back then. Wonder what Goku’s reaction and thoughts will be. I doubt that this will be a drastic change or anything like that, but I like it nonetheless.

That's what the panels suggest. Goku sees an image of Bardock and Gine when he was in his pod. In the next panel, he seems like something snapped in him - most likely his memories of his parents.chitarra10 wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 3:27 pmThat link has been taken down... can you tell us what it actually said before it disappeared? Goku's already on a point of his life where recovering his memory wouldn't affect his personality at all. So it's good he's finally remembering his parents.
Goku's case in Z has always been of nature vs nurture, so I never thought he would revert to a savage saiyan after becoming a full earthling for so many years (hell, even Vegeta who was waaaaaay more brutal than Bardock managed to become a good person). To me this was long overdue haha

Yeah, I'm curious to see how much it will affect Goku. I don't think it's supposed to change his personality or anything like that. Even tho he doesn't remember things about his parents or past, Goku is aware and sure of who he is, despite what Gas said to him last chapter. He gets mad when Jiren treats him like a nobody and call him a "nameless warrior". Be it Goku or Kakarot (from the Broly movie onwards), he's confidente about the person he became. At the same time, he embraced his Saiyan heritage regardless of what his people did in the past because it's also part of who he is.
I think this will serve more to give Goku a better understanding of Gas' conflict, the way to defeat him and overall just to make him more aware of his past and what his parents did for him, despite the Saiyan race being know as just a bunch of bastards

I expect nothing less than getting The Lion King vibes out of this chapter!

Anyway, I noticed "redon" (is that their name?) didn't appear to provide their summary last month, it would be of great happiness if they could appear this month.

So it seems that the original tweet with the spoilers was taken down because a correction needed to be made, and it's been put back up again here... https://twitter.com/DBSChronicles/statu ... 0205871106 ...this looks like it's gonna be SO freaking good!!

My god this is some fan fiction levels of bad.
I hope Toei doesn't adapt this at all.

Fan fiction is not bad. That's like saying "this is some comic book levels of bad" for a comic book. Which this comic is.ZombieVito wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 8:13 pm My god this is some fan fiction levels of bad.

I don’t think it’ll result in drastic changes or anything, but isn’t “within the arc” the perfect place for it, with its equal focus on Vegeta and Granolah’s pasts in their current identities? And within the series, it also fits into the thread of a closer examination of character identities post-Tournament of Power, with Goku’s brief “Kakarrot” moment in Broly, and the continued focus on who Vegeta and Goku are as people through both the Moro and Granolah arcs. There’s a bit of focus and structure across storylines here.kemuri07 wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 6:04 pm It probably won't, and I think that's the problem. Might not be the grandest thing ever, but at least there’s a coherence that keeps the series together as what is still a kind of fluffy, optional sequel. (Which, take it or leave it, is all it ever promised to be.)
It’s bad because it involves Bardock. But when it involves a character I like it’s good.DiscountDabi wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:16 pm Explain. People keep saying its bad but never elaborate

Bruh this some straight horse shit

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

We know for a fact that this is the case, we have countless of examples that unfortunately back this sentiment up. It's kinda baffling that we have to deal with it. That and "fanfic" still being used as a "synonym" for "bad things".Cipher wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 11:35 pmIt’s bad because it involves Bardock. Hey Toriyama you should totally subvert expectations by actually playing this character arc straight and not undercutting this idea k cool thanks.

SPOILERS - DBSHYPE (TWITTER)
Goku, Vegeta & Monaito go to Monaito's place. Monaito kept Bardock's broken scouter, and the scouter has voice recordings of Bardock, which he ...... shows to both of them. Monaito also has a small robot that quickly repairs it. When the scouter is played and Goku hears the recording, it triggers Bardock & Gine's Memory in him.
Bardock doesn’t go SSJ while fighting gas yet, this fight is seven pages long in this chapter and continues in the next one, so we’ll find out next month if he does go SSJ or not.
Small correction: the robot is oatmeel, he’s the one who took those 3 and Granolah in a vehicle to Monaito’s place and later even fixed the scouter

People acting like Toriyama is above this when Broly literally ended with "HEY YOU CAN CALL ME KAKAROT" and he made Minus to make Goku have a loving mother

The man’s such a Bardock fan he wrote a pointless cameo into the manga back in 1991!OLKv3 wrote: Thu Mar 17, 2022 12:59 am People acting like Toriyama is above this when Broly literally ended with "HEY YOU CAN CALL ME KAKAROT" and he made Minus to make Goku have a loving mother![]()

Can't wait for the utter shitstorm and 30 minute long video essays about why this is a bad idea.
Jokes aside, I really like that they're doing this. It's been a long ass time since they've given Goku a major revelation. This is definitely going to get people talking, for better or worse.

Yeah feels unusual for DB and that's the very thing I love about this. Not sure why the negativity from most.. Feels interesting, special, fresh to me.
Imagine Goku (and you) getting this new discovery so many years later. Why is that bad?
There really hasn't been anything like that for him at all since maybe Namek and it seems like a great time for it.
I also like the parents' scene in the Broly movie, a lot, and it's cool that that has a meaning for the continuation of the story
