Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
Seriously. EVERYONE knows that it's called Super Saiyan Blue. That's what the fans call it; that's what the manga calls it, that's even what Goku, Vegeta and Vegetto call it. It's been well over 6 years now; they should know it's Super Saiyan Bue.

Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
That's what the anime calls it. And Toei makes the anime.
Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
It's not Toei, it's just the merchandising part of the franchise that (thankfully) uses that name.
"Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is the better name here. Though there is a repetition, it conveys what the form is about. "Super Saiyan Blue" is you basic, without-any-thought name. I'm glad there is still something that uses the former. Also, not every fan calls it by the latter.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan feels so redundant though...Super Saiyan Blue may be basic but it does get the basic idea across, from a visual standpoint at least.Grimlock wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 2:36 pm It's not Toei, it's just the merchandising part of the franchise that (thankfully) uses that name.

EDIT: Didn't realize I left the second Super Saiyan out

I dunno, Goku referred to SSB as "BURU" while explaining how SSBKK works against Hit. Vegito called himself Vegito Blue, as well. There must've been other opportunities where they called it Blue.
I'm pretty sure the manga has referred to the form as blue, consistently, ever since Whis mentioned how dumb it was to refer to the form as SSGSS with Goku biting his tongue while doing it. In fact, when Goku, vs EarthMoro, gets power from Vegeta and goes SSB instead of MnG, Piccolo says he is only SSB, so no SSGSS crap. Unless the translators were taking shorcuts.
I think it's only a thing for videogames and maybe ancillary material. I've never read SSGSS outside of XV2, FighterZ and Kakarot.

Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
It's just your feeling. The first "Super Saiyan" is part of the "Super Saiyan God" name, the second "Super Saiyan" in the name refers to the regular "Super Saiyan".
It's "Super Saiyan God (that went) Super Saiyan". So you see, these "Super Saiyan" refer to something different.
That said, the "Super Saiyan God" part in the name should have been more carefully chosen. As it isn't technically Super Saiyan God (the form) that goes Super Saiyan. It's a Saiyan god (person) that goes Super Saiyan. So the name should've been:
• (Super Saiyan) God Super Saiyan.
• God Super Saiyan.
• Super Saiyan God (and the actual "Super Saiyan God" should have been called something else).
Eh, but it's a bit more stupid. "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is the first "complex" name that requires one to think a little bit more in order to understand it. It's good to have some complexity once in a while, in a work filled with basic stuff.FPSSJ4_Goku wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 2:38 pm...Super Saiyan Blue may be basic but it does get the basic idea across, from a visual standpoint at least.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is the Super Saiyan ascended past Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan Blue's Super Saiyan 2.
Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
It only shows up in games and merchandising at this point. All of the fiction itself has stuck with "Blue" since the Universe 6 arc.
I can only assume it's a desire to clarify what the form is to an extent, since "Blue" is a shorthand and doesn't exactly make its hierarchical place clear like 1, 2, 3, 4 and God.
Or some sort of draconian merchandising trademark thing.

Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
It would be funny if the games and whatever used SS's original names over the numbers like they do with Blue.
It's only after Goku shows off SS3 that the numbers start being used, before that, the description for SS2 was basically "super saiyan level beyond the original super saiyan", and SS3 is basically described as "Go even beyond the super saiyan that went beyond the original super saiyan", quite a mouthful, no wonder that when Goku explains the transformations to Boo and Babidi, he starts to use numbers lol.
Edit: Hah, just noticed that, in this post, the sentence under my username name is "beyond the beyond newbie", quite fitting lol.

Did the anime ever use the name Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan? I know the manga didmute_proxy wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 2:27 pm That's what the anime calls it. And Toei makes the anime.
Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
So weird how they changed it, now they do refer to it as basically Super Saiyan of Super Saiyan God. I think before it was the Power of Super Saiyan God with Super Saiyan. I don’t know, it’s never fully explained. I guess for RoF, it would be better if they called it “God-like Saiyan Super Saiyan”?Grimlock wrote: Tue Mar 22, 2022 2:56 pmIt's just your feeling. After all, I think multiple times even in the anime they refer to the God forms as “feeling as if he’s a God” when referring to Son Goku in the tournament of power prematch. So I guess it really is just “god-like”. I really miss the explanation for the Goku absorbing Super Saiyan God into base, so now they basically have the power of Super Saiyan God from within, and transforming automatically leads to SSGSS, amazing. Shouldn’t kept it
Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
It's used in the RoF arc, when Goku went Blue against Freeza, Freeza even mentions it's a tongue twister and that he almost bit his tongue lol.Aim wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:23 am Did the anime ever use the name Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan? I know the manga did

Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
I think that works. Anything that have "Super Saiyan" and "God" in the name could work, it's Super Saiyan and it has god power/Ki, that's all what you need to know. Though I would remove the "Saiyan" from the middle in there, it isn't necessary.Aim wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:29 amit would be better if they called it “God-like Saiyan Super Saiyan”?

Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
Let's face it: story-wise, aside from "Super Saiyan," "Super Saiyan God," and "Ultra Instinct," every other form was named by Goku. I think it stands to reason that Goku would simply call the form "Super Saiyan Blue." Then again... it stands to reason that Goku would name the form "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan." Goku shouldn't really care about how cool or fancy the name is; it is just an identifier for him. I know it matters to us as the audience, but story-wise, either name could be conceivable. Neither the redundancy of "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" nor the simplicity of "Super Saiyan Blue" should play any role in the name from Goku's perspective.
Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
Yeah that actually makes sense, God-like Super Saiyan, I wonder if Toriyama told them they weren’t true Gods but god-like? Hence the mention in the anime by other Gods. I still don’t reckon god ki and super Saiyan god are the same like people say, I don’t think god ki just makes a Saiyan a super saiyan god I think it’s actually the transformation that gives access to it, hence using “the power of super saiyan god with super saiyan” instead of “god ki with super saiyan”, I guess god ki is just a consequence of the form.Grimlock wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 2:40 amI think that works. Re: Why does Toei still call Super Saiyan Blue, "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"?
To me, God-like Super Saiyan was the prototype of Super Saiyan Blue in Battle of Gods, when Goku transformed with the power of SSG still burning in him, or when Goku Black fought Vegeta without ascending, above that of SS2 and 3. It's similar to Super Saiyan at full power having surpassed the grades and an attempt by the author to simplify things. However, the movie concept was confusing against his will, hence why the power of SSG in Super Saiyan form is better in Blue. It also makes for a cool acronym: SSGSS. As a side note, I've seen people clear the argument of whether Gohan was Super Saiyan or SS2 against Dabra by saying that he was both, a SS2SS
.
