What is the required power level in destroying a planet?
EndlessMIke (an anti-dbz) said that Vegeta's power level of 18000 can't destroy a planet because it didn't happen, in otherwords "HYPERBOLE". What do you think?
It's a gag manga! It never was nor was it meant to be scientifically sound or accurate.

Re: What is the required power level in destroying a planet?
In the anime, Vegeta did destroy Planet Arlia, moon and all. In both manga and anime, he was confident his Galick-Ho could destroy the Earth. Dodoria stated in the Namek saga that his power level had been 18,000, as the Ocean version puts it, "at best". We never see anyone with a lower PL than Vegeta's pre-Namek level destroy a planet, though both Piccolo and even Roshi were able wipe out Earth's moon. Hard to say what an acquired PL is. I remember once in an anime flashback, where King Vegeta, Vegeta, and other Saiyans demolish a planet, the King (who's less powerful than the prince) unleashes a blast that only destroys about half the planet. I believe that flashback is shown as Vegeta dies in the Freeza saga.goodguy777 wrote:EndlessMIke (an anti-dbz) said that Vegeta's power level of 18000 can't destroy a planet because it didn't happen, in otherwords "HYPERBOLE". As far as the anime, I guess you can say somewhere between Vegeta's power level and whatever King Vegeta's was, which obviously had to be superior to Nappa's.
14 years later
I think a power level as low as Nappa could destroy the planet if he wanted to. Just look at the attack he uses as soon as they land on earth, and that attack really didn't seem to waste too much of his energy.
Had Goku not been present when Vegeta used the Galik Hou, he would have destroyed the planet. He says that he was going to smash earth into tiny pieces. Which made me wonder, what would happen to Vegeta if he were successful in destroying the planet? Wouldn't he die too?

Either he was mad with rage at the time, or he never intended to actually explode the planet a la Freeza.mrkaizoku wrote:Had Goku not been present when Vegeta used the Galik Hou, he would have destroyed the planet. Roshi vaporized the moon, the energy in that attack could DESTROY Earth.Rocketman wrote:The Moon is tiny compared to a planet. It only has 1/100 the mass of the Earth.Toriyama Boss wrote:Destroying a planet is low-tier in Dragonball, Roshi vaporized the moon with weak battle power.
What I meant was, characters only got stronger from then on and could sweep away planets without a trace.

Dude it don't matter, they can easily destroy planets as the series goes on.Rocketman wrote:No it couldn't. Earth is larger, denser and has more gravity holding itself together.Toriyama Boss wrote:Roshi vaporized the moon, the energy in that attack could DESTROY Earth.
Planet destroying is low-tier in dragonball.

I remember Daimao (around 260) stating he would destroy the world if the guy didn't agree to let him run it. He could've just meant city-by-city, but he could've been talkin about literally blowing it up, also.
"First I whip it out! Then I thrust it! With great force! Every angle...! It penetrates! Until...! With great strength...! I... ram it in! In the end... We are all satisfied... And you are set free...!" ~Dante~
Destroying a planet is not solely based on the power level of the person using the attack but the attack itself. When Tenshinhan used his Tri-Beam Cannon (I can't remember the Japanese name for the attack) against Cell it did quite a bit of damage even though Tien was a pretty weak fighter compared to Cell. The same goes for Roshi when he destroyed the moon, the Kamehameha is a very powerful attack and if Roshi hadn't known that attack his power level would be the same but he probably wouldn't have been able to destroy the moon.

I'm sure that the power level required to destroy Earth would in fact be...around Nappa's power level, which was 4000 or so. And the attack DOES matter. Attacks tend to temporarily increase the users power level quite a bit before using them. This example is shown when Raditz saw Son Goku's power level increase before using a Kamehameha Wave. But anyway, I'm assuming that you'd have to be a little weaker than Nappa, to destroy the Earth.

I have to agree with Toriyama Boss. If Freeza can damage the core of Namek to destroy it "5 minutes later," I can't see how Roshi's Kamehame-Ha taking out the moon wouldn't have a similar effect for the Earth's core.
All of this inevitably leads to a power-level discussion between characters. Many, many threads have discussed this to the point where anyone who reads/thinks upon them just has to realize there are inconsistencies within the story regarding this... live with it.

Yeah. I forget who it was (Rocketman, maybe?) but I remember that as well.Last time this topic came up, didn't someone crunch some numbers that were surprisingly close to Vegeta's 18,000 by multiplying Muten Roshi's battle power by the size difference between the Moon and the Earth?
No, it couldn't. There's far more mass to the Earth and the Earth is also denser. Saying Roshi's Kamehameha would have any noticeable effect on the Earth as a whole just because it took out the moon is like saying that an explosive able to blow up a wet paper bag is strong enough to do noticeable damage to a solid steel box just because it took out the bag.Roshi vaporized the moon, the energy in that attack could DESTROY Earth.

Dude it don't matter, I said forget that..DBZ can easily sweep away planets and more so please don't sit here and argue about Roshi not being able to destroy a planet with a battle power little over 300 in the start of Dragonball.Xyex wrote:No, it couldn't. BTW, Roshi VAPORIZED the moon, that's more energy than just DESTROYING the moon.
