Dragonball Z Burst Limit Bonus

Post by sonjordan » Wed Jun 11, 2008 8:26 pm

So, I didn't know how I missed this in the first place but when I went to pick up my copy of Burst Limit for the PS3 it came bundled with a blu-ray disc of The Dead Zone.

And a T-shirt.

Bonus times two!

Edit: Oops....didn't see that there was a forum for video games.

The x-box 360 version has the first disk of the Season One set. I'm not sure if it's in HD or not.

Gamestop also had a T-shirt.

We've covered this extensively on the website and on the podcast :).

I watched a bit of the Dead Zone blu ray earlier...

The picture's pretty good, but there's tons of visible grain and specks. It's probably the closest thing that the US will ever get to a Dragonbox in terms of picture quality.

However, there is no japanese voices option which is a huge disappointment. The dub has the japanese music, but I don't know why FUNi removed the japanese vocal track.

Thank God i did not pre-order the American PS3 release! I was considering preordering it just to get the extras, but I'm extremely glad I did not do it after all.

I didn't pre-order and I got that stuff anyway. I only wish the T-shirt was black with white design, cause I am just not a big fan of White T-shirts.

If anyone is curious about the Blu-Ray disc, here is a scan of the back cover.

It's just a bonus giveaway item. Can't really expect it to have everything that the actual release would. Fortunately, Dead Zone is actually dubbed pretty well.

I made it into Game Stop yesterday and checked them both out. I thought the bonus discs were a cool idea. I was dissapointed the PS3 version had Dead Zone instead of episodes 1-7 on Blu-Ray. I know that FUNimation probably hasn't begun prepping the TV series for High def yet, but it would have been a cool preview.

Be happy that you got something. As far as I know most of us in the EU did not get anything. Plus we have to pay more for the game than the USA.

I was happy it was the movie instead of the episodes. I own both (bought the season set when it came out and just bought the movie last week) and would rather have a movie than seven episodes.

Although putting one 30 or fourty minute movie on a BluRay disc with no other features is wasting a lot of space. the should have went the Street Fighter Anniversary route and included it on the game disc.

People really need to stop complaining about the Blu-ray. It's free after all, right? You get the entire movie in high def, isn't that enough? Anyways, if you're really aching for the Japanese version just pick up the retail version, and BAM! Problem solved!

By that logic the 360 Bonus Disc would've been gimped as well, but was it? No, it was full on release version of the first DVD of Season One.
Fortunately, Dead Zone is actually dubbed pretty well.
The Pioneer/Ocean Group one is, but that's not the one that came with BL.

The thing is that FUNimation went about it in an idiotic fashion.

Example is cost them (FUNi) nothing to include the first Season 1 DVD with the 360 version. It was already done, completed, etc. Nothing had to be changed, however the Dead Zone Blu-Ray disc had to be specifically altered in order to end up the way it did as a bonus, ie they spent money to edit the content of it, and then to repackage it, which is moronic.

The way they did it with the 360 is genius because it cost them no money and there's the chance that if people watch the first 7 eps they might want to see the rest and the only way to do that is to get the box set, where as if people are fine with Dead Zone's dub they're not going to care about getting the standard release of the movie.

There's no point in complaining about complaining when FUNimation makes a idiotic choice the way they did. It's more BAM! FUNimation is double stupid.

Yeah, just the first disc. Not the full release. It leaves people wanting more, i.e. buying the full Season, the same way the Blu-ray movie leaves them wanting the Japanese track and the other movie.

FUNi's redub of that and World's Strongest use the same script.

Not if a larger majority of the fans only care about the English version.

Those people like myself who prefer the Japanese version are a niche audience, so like out of a million people that get that bonus disc only 100 would care that it doesn't have the Japanese track, and of that small % of people you're not even going to have most of them going out to get the new version of DZ just for the Japanese, cause chances are they already have a Japanese version of DZ that they're perfectly fine with.
FUNi's redub of that and World's Strongest use the same script.
Thought you mentioned the dub, not the script. Like wouldn't the fact that Ocean Group used professional voice actors for DBZ while FUNi used their own employees and local talent (from Texas) be a big factor in what's done well or not?

Note I'm not talking about FUNi in it's entirety just DBZ FUNi, as their other properties like Full Metal Alchemist are handled extremely well, which just baffles me, ie why is it that FMA is handled on the same level as other good dubs or seems very proffessional, or the voices seem natrual or whatever, while DBZ is always hanlded like a 4 year old or something. Mike and Meri have talked about this on the podcast before, they (FUNi) do well with all other properties except DBZ, even 10 years later they still handle it poorly (and I'm not talking about the dub, I'm talking about every aspect of it)
