Why didn’t toriyama use the Japanese name for great monkey for the saiyan transformation?

No that translated is great ape not great monkey which makes no sense because apes have no tails.

Oozaru translates to Great Monkey. How the english speaking people call it is not up to Toriyama.

"Apes" and "monkeys" being two radically different things referred to by completely different words is mostly a peculiarity of the English language. "Saru" is the common Japanese word used to refer to both.

So if you want to be dumb and nerdy about it, he technically named them "Great Primates".

Really wow I wonder if team four star realized that oozaru can also mean great monkey. I always saw it translated as great ape.
