DVD backup and video help.

Post by SonEric84 » Fri Oct 12, 2007 6:34 pm

I just recently bought a DVD burner and I wanted to make back ups of my Dragon ball DVDs so I could keep the originals in good condition, plus, I would like to mess around with video footage and what not. I tried to copy the DVD directly from one DVD drive to the other and it said something about not being able to make a copy because it's copyright protected. What's the way around this? (If any.) Thanks.

You don't need to back-up your DVDs. They'll be in fine condition so long as you don't drag them across a parking lot.

Yeah, I don't need to, but it's something I always do (with my music CDs), that way if an accident happens, my original is still okay.

Indeed, these aren't like VHSes. Just don't go getting finger prints or scratches all over and like Mike said, watch out for them parking lots. Of anything you should back up are VHSes of certain things that haven't yet come to DVD, it's always a wise idea to convert/copy those to a decent blank DVD. Speaking of which, Mike, didn't you and Meri do that for the first 4 Ocean DBZ episodes with the original "die/death/Raditz saying Goku" dialogue?

Well you two are a riot. :P Seriously though, was this a bad question to ask or something?

Perhaps you're blind to why I'm avoiding answering the question.

The instant someone shows up and says, "Hey, I just got a DVD burner and I want to back-up all my DVDs!"... it's usually a pretty obvious red flag indicating something else, which I don't particularly want to be involved with.

You know it. That and the Harmony Gold DB movie 3 dub :).

Not really blind, I just don't have any kind of illegal intentions. I own them and I want backups. I actually don't want to back up ALL of them, that would be nuts...just the ones that are hard to find. (Same as I do with my CDs.) I suppose I understand your concern though. Thanks anyway.

What program are you using? I would recommend 'DVD Shrink' or 'DVD Decrypter'.

Definately use DVD Shrink. Works great....not that I use it or anything...
