Ugh! Just great. You don't think there will be downloadable content for the game? New characters? Fights? Stages? Modes? Darn.
I know that there won't be any DLC, it's been confirmed in interviews already, which I found surprising, but only because they admitted flat out that there wouldn't be any when asked about it rather then trying to dodge it.

Also note that Burst Limit isn't the first next gen fighting game, ie Dead or Alive 4 and Virtua Fighter 5 and Tekken: Dark Ressurection have all come out on either the PS3 or 360, and none of them had DLC. Soul Calibur IV won't have any DLC either aside from what's already on the disc.

Fighting games seem like a natural source for DLC however the truth of the matter is that they never have DLC for multiple reasons. For instance let's they made Zarbon, Dodoria, Coola, Garlic.Jr, etc, as DLC and they released each one monthly, well it make playing online really difficult because whoever your playing would have to have all the exact same DLC you have and if everything (characters, stages, costumes) were released seperately it be problematic for the online mode. Now of course they could make a single expansion pack to make it easier, but they'd rather save that content for a sequel as they don't get a lot of time to develop sequels and it would just limit what new stuff they could have in BL2 if they were releasing DLC.

The other thing people have to realize about DLC is that at most you usually only have around 30% of people that bought the game buying the DLC, and given that DLC doesn't make very much (or any) profit along with the time having to spend on something that most people aren't going to experience, ontop of the fact that first parties like Sony and 360 get a cut of the DLC profit most developers don't want to do DLC.

DLC has lots of potential for what can be done with games, however it's not very viable, thus you don't see many companies doing it, or when they do something it's not all that major.

OK. One more question, and then I swear I'm done. Do you think that after they have made BL2 or BL3 or even BL4, and when they can't develop another game for financial or whatever reasons, will they then release and DLC to cash in on their previously made game?

Also on a side note: When do you think they (being Japan) will stop making games? It's kind of a dumb question, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Japan has been spitting out games pretty consistently for the last ten years or so, so I doubt they will stop anytime soon (by soon I mean in the next 5-10 years). I suppose that if something major were to happen to Atari or the licensing contract for the games (from Toei and the other owners of the franchise) than the games might stop coming. But since the fan market has pretty much leveled off and does not show any imminent signs of going up or down there are no real reasons for the games to stop coming, as far as I can see. :D Yes!!

Hurrah! That's the answer I was looking for. But still, I would say that the games have to eventually even off, but I can't see any reason for them to. Maybe after FUNimation dies down with their releases, and Japan stops caring, they might stop..? Still this seems far off regardless. The only real reason I can think of, is if a whole new manga sweeps the fans, and Dragon Ball is tragically forgotten :'(.

They won't make DLC for old games, nobody does, because a game is most viable around the time of release, and often times with these DBZ games once the next game comes out the previous game becomes useless as it's generally the same game from before but improved upon.

They won't stop until it stops making money.

People are afraid of developing original DB content in Japan and/or if someone does Bandai or TOEI prevents it or limits it, which is why you don't see more original content from the DB franchise or why it's always the samething over and over again, since that's the safest thing to do.

There are already a number of series here and in Japan that are more popular then DBZ (popular as the current "in" thing) like Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach. They're not more well known then DBZ, but the current fandom for those is much stronger then DBZ is currently.

Whatever new series comes there seems to be a large enough hardcore Dragonball fan base to withstand any new anime or manga (this long-lasting forum and site are proof of that).

I'm not talking about that.

No anime series will probably ever be as well known or have as many fans as DBZ does/did (cept maybe Sailor Moon) however there are times when the popularity or interest of a show will be much higher then that of DBZ, ie Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, etc, are still at the height of their popularity and have new episodes, movies, games, etc, being created all the time where as with DBZ there's just a new game every year but they often just repeat the story that everyone already knows.

While only vaguely related, it entertains me, I drew this while listening to the podcast.

You can seen Ten from when Mike started talking about the new voice.

Nice work! I love the stuntman, and it's always nice to see some Dragonball art. Your style changes by the time you get down to the bottom with Tenshinhan too! To plug a fellow artist, Mr. Announcer is absolutely amazing. Check it out.

Thank you! And Mr. Announcer is one of my favorites I frequent on DeviantArt.
