Super adapted two movies, and the response was lukewarm at best. I don’t see how adapting a movie from 2018 in television form would have any appeal.

Believe me, I know Bulma and Shénlóng are a joke, but it'd actually make sense in my head for that to be an in-universe explanation for why he's only been granting two wishes. She's been messing up.Grimlock wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 4:00 pmI don't think so. As for Bulma, it was only gag scene. Goku thinks Bulma has been summoning Shenlong as she's barely aged, but it doesn't mean she has indeed summoned Shenlong in the meantime. The way Goku says it and by Bulma's reaction, you can tell that that's the case.

As for the appeal of bringing back the anime to adapt stories...that's what 90% of anime is. I don't want them to adapt the films, because they've been animated already, but they would 100% adapt the manga because that's what anime does.

The thing is that DBS isn’t like most anime. The anime was meant to be the main product, while the manga was more of a niche side thing that played like a cliff-notes version of the story. The manga has since branched out into its own thing, but it’s still pretty niche, and I don’t see how adapting it would be worth the long wait.LastationLover5000 wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:28 pmBelieve me, I know Bulma and Shénlóng are a joke, but it'd actually make sense in my head for that to be an in-universe explanation for why he's only been granting two wishes. I’m a broken record at this point, but I don’t think the anime is coming back, at least not anytime in the near future. I think Super is on its way out.

It's not about having appeal. The logical decision back then would have been to not adapt them either. All of that time and resources that could have gone to animating new content went to the worst arcs in DBS and I'll never understand why.WittyUsername wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:19 pmSuper adapted two movies, and the response was lukewarm at best. The manga has been an unbridled disaster of storytelling. It's best left as just Toyo's side-universe and not part of the Main Timeline. There are already so many unfulfilled promises made by the series that've gone completely ignored in the manga. And then introducing more nonsense from Yardrat. They make Vegeta learn spirit fission that is ONLY useful against Moro. And then Granolah and Gas comes along where that ability is completely worthless. Goku at least regularly uses Instant Transmission. Whereas Spirit Fission was only useful for that one fight and it's now likely to be forgotten going forward.LastationLover5000 wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:54 pm Oh I don't believe the anime is coming back either, but if it does, it is going to adapt the manga. If the Anime does continue, it needs a complete rewrite to fix all the many, many, MANY errors in the Manga.

I thought the Moro arc was pretty dull and uninspired, and I never had a particularly high opinion of the Granolah arc, but the recent stuff with Bardock and his wish have straight up annoyed me. I’d be perfectly content with not seeing it adapted in animated form.
The only thing left from Super that I really wanted was a story with an antagonist who seeks to defy the Gods for understandable reasons, but Heroes already wasted that concept with Hearts.

The thing is, Toriyama still is involved. This is as much Toriyama as it is Toyotaro. So if we blame Toyo, Tori has to be blamed too. If the anime comes back, it will adapt the manga, as the manga still follows Tori's instructions and Toriyama approves or declines what Toyable does.Zelvin wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 6:09 pmThe manga has been an unbridled disaster of storytelling. The thing is, it doesn't matter whether you want to see it adapted or not. If the anime comes back, it will adapt the manga. There is exactly 0.01% chance it will not. You can loathe it all you like, I'm no fan of the DBS manga either. But it will be adapted, because it isn't just Toyable, it is Toriyama too.WittyUsername wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 6:26 pm I thought the Moro arc was pretty dull and uninspired, and I never had a particularly high opinion of the Granolah arc, but the recent stuff with Bardock and his wish have straight up annoyed me. Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
Involved? Yes. But the degree of his involvement is rather minimal. Toyo gets an outline and then runs with that while occasionally trying to get advice/approval for his designs from Toriyama. There's actually no way to tell how much involvement Toriyama has with Toyo's work and how much is Toei/Shueisha. Toriyama isn't Toyotaro's editor, nor his director. Tori has his own editor and director he has to worth with as far as these projects are concerned. Such as this movie.LastationLover5000 wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 6:53 pm The thing is, Toriyama still is involved. This is as much Toriyama as it is Toyotaro. The reason why the Cell Saga was as good as it was had to do with Tori's Editor at the time who really pushed him and criticized him to do better. The Buu Saga wasn't as strong because his Editor then wasn't as hands-on and let Tori do more on his own. So while Toyo may not be completely at fault, without a strong Editor to keep him in line and help keep things make sense, then it leaves Toyo with too much freedom to just do whatever he wants to the detriment of the series.

But without Super, how are Bandai Namco, Toei, Bandai (yes, there's a difference, Bandai Namco makes video games and stuff, Bandai makes Toys) and Shueisha supposed to milk the cash cow that is the Dragon Ball franchise? Am I really supposed to believe that Super Dragon Ball Heroes is THAT profitable?

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
I haven't really been keeping up with the movie, especially now that there will likely be spoilers everywhere, but I decided to check the official site. Turns out there's midnight premiere screening near me in Tokyo! I booked my ticket two days after they went on sale, but I was still able to get a decent seat. This is my first midnight screening in Japan, and typically watching movies in Japanese theaters is SUPER awkward, but I'm hoping there will at least be some of the same energy I experienced when I saw Broly in New York a few years back. Can't wait!
An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?

Fat Gotenks in the final fight confirmed I guess. A fat fusion is such a lazy and overused joke. Wish we would get normal adult Gotenks in a mainline series. I love his design in DBH.

Ah, yes... The fat man with his butt exposed is what everyone wanted to see because it's so funny.

I suppose the novelty of Goten and Trunks fighting separately had to be balanced out with banal Fat Gotenks humor...

Heck this movie could have about Goten and Trunks growing up and finding a path for their characters, giving us a fresh and matured take on Gotenks.
Sounds a lot better than hiting the reset button on Gohan again.
It's bizarre how much more character development Goten and Trunks got in 64 episodes of GT versus the whole of Super.

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
Gotenks has always been more of a joke character anyway, so it’s not like they’re dumbing him down or anything. The entire fight with Super Boo was just one extended gag, (I mean, I’ve never met anyone who genuinely thought Gotenks was gonna actually defeat Boo) and all of his subsequent appearances have been more or less the same, in movie 12 he was fighting hitler, in movie 13 he was one shotted though I guess the tone of that fight was a bit more serious then in both Battle of Gods and Revival of Freeza anime arc he was involved in joke scenes.
Honestly having him fight seriously in the failed fat form is a different enough take in of itself since it was always implied that the failed fusions were incapable of fighting or at least fighting properly anyway.
Plus having Gotenks show up normally and have him go SS3 only to lose to New Cell anyway, while Piccolo and Gohan save the day only serves to make people upset that Piccolo is stronger than Gotenks despite Goten and Trunks presumably not doing any serious training since the Boo arc. So I take it as a can of worms not worth opening.

I mean, this should go without saying, but this is obviously subject to personal taste. For my money, the Cell Saga is the low point of Dragon Ball as a whole, at least up until the Goku Black arc. Buu was fantastic, an excellent return to form and send-off to DBZ. However, that's just me!Zelvin wrote: Sun Jun 05, 2022 7:16 pm The reason why the Cell Saga was as good as it was had to do with Tori's Editor at the time who really pushed him and criticized him to do better. I also really like a lot of Toriyama's post DB stuff, like Jaco or Neko Majin or the DBS movies. So yeah, I'd personally caution against giving TOO MUCH credit to his editors.
