Buu Arc

Post by gkrt » Sat Jun 21, 2008 9:54 am

The whole Buu Arc to me (Great Saiyaman saga-kid Buu Saga). I just thought it wasn't as good as the others. Definatley my least favourite.

I like the Buu saga, up until Super Buu arrived. Then it started getting a little boring. Then Vegetto made it good again for awhile.

I agree. It was great in the beginning (Great Saiyaman to the rescuuue~!), dragged a bit in the middle, then sometime around Vegetto's arrival it got good again, and stayed that way. If you ask me, the final battle was perfect. Kid Buu was the coolest form yet, Goku and Vegeta make a great team, Mr. Buu's reappearance, Mr. Satan haphazardly helping to save the day again, and the humanity-fueled Spirit Bomb was the perfect method of taking Buu out for good.

Buu saga is my favorite, especially the fusion saga part.

Eh, I think it's better than the Cell arc. Dragonball is supposed to be a funny series, and the Cell arc got way too dark and serious.

I didn't like the Buu saga dragging on the way it did when it came to the TV show. Around the Super Buu saga it seemed like the pink bastard was taking far too long to die and just kept regenerating or gaining a new form or lying about his power episode after episode after episode. Of course the manga didn't have this issue, in fact I thought the Buu saga was quite short and I would have liked more of it when it came to the comic book. But I felt when you take a regenerating monster with tons of forms add that to filler and 23 min. episodes that air once a week and you have a story arc that has a hard time being animated.

I also didn't like the feeling that Mr.Toriyama was making it up as he went along. More then once it felt like he wrote himself into a corner and had to B.S his way past it by suddenly having a character bring up one fact or another that he just suddenly happened to remember, although the Buu saga isn't the only time that had happened. I agree the Buu saga brought back some much needed humor that was absent in a lot of DBZ.
It's one of my least favorite sagas anime wise but when it comes to the manga it isn't all that awful. Oh and The Great Saiyaman was one of the best jokes in all of DBZ.

Yup, it has to be a maximum of 80x80 pixels.

I really liked a lot of concepts in the Buu saga. The Dragonball-esque humor, fusion, Mr. Satan proving himself, Goku and Vegeta, long time rivals, teaming up, the Earth defending itself, Gohan's powering up, etc. My only real two gripes is that unlike the other arcs in DBZ, it just kinda...came out of nowhere (as Toriyama obviously made it up on the fly). It also just seemed like another version of Cell (evil being locked up and created for destruction, able to regenerate, absorb, etc.). Other than that, I greatly enjoyed it.

The Boo stuff has some of my favorite moments of the whole series.

The fight between Gotenks and Super Boo in the RoSaT is still my favorite part of the entire series. To this day, I still pop in those three episodes when I'm upset, just to calm myself down.

I think the Cell arc was probably a bit more... well rounded, but I honestly prefer the Boo arc.

I'm indifferent between all the arcs. All of 'em rock. And that's the beauty of such a large series. Once the newness of one acr wears off, I go to another, then another, then another... and wind back up where I started.

The circle never ends! (well, except maybe my circle leaves out GT... I'll get around to watching the rest of it one day)

I can agree with that.

I really like the Buu saga. It's pretty Dragon Ball-like, and introduces the interesting concept of Fusion instead of just introducing even more new levels (though, it does do that. Not as much as the Cell saga, however). But, just like Cell, it doesn't feel as epic as the beginning of Z, and while it's a noticeable step up, it's still a heavy lag down from Freeza.

Honestly, my favorite arc from this post-Freeza lag is the Bebi stuff. It's pretty friggin' epic.

I actually prefer Cell. I agree that the Buu Saga came out of nowhere. Most of the arcs in the series tie into something else, except for Buu and Pilaf (obviously). Jackie Chun was a direct continuation of Goku's meeting with Muten from the previous saga. Pilaf also shows up all over the place in Dragon Ball. The Red Ribbon Army was its own thing, but it later ties into the Cell Saga. The Tsuru-sennin and Daimao arcs were basically skeletons in Muten's closet, and the Ma Junior Saga continued where Daimao left off. The Saiyan Saga reveals Goku and Piccolo's true origins and puts them in the same camp against other threats, with the Freeza Saga continuing on. I mentioned Cell/RR. Then there's Buu. This big pink Cell rip off (created for revenge, absorbs, regenerates). Really doesn't have anything to do with anything else, excpet for Mr. Buu and Uub being semi-relevant in GT. Hell, even GT Sagas are throwbacks. Baby is all about Tsufuru revenge, Super 17 (duh), and Evil Shen Long turns the dragon balls of the series' title into the enemy basically.

This Buu Saga is just this bastion of pink fluff floating in the middle. It's about as random as its villain. And damn is he random. Kinda hurts my head when he shot his power through the roof by absorbing...himself. That'd be like Cell getting cut vertically in half, each half regenerating into a complete Cell, and then one of them sucking the bio-energy from the other.

I honestly love the Majin Buu arc, definitely holds it's own among the others, even though I can't choose a favorite.

It is interesting to note however, that the Majin Buu Arc and the Cell Arc are add-ons. The series was originally intended to end much sooner, first with Dragonball than with the Freeza Arc but Toryama was convinced to continue the series. Considering that, the greatness of the Majin Buu and Cell arcs is pretty amazing.

The Buu arc was my favorite part of DBZ. I felt like the theme songs were better than the other parts of the series (Zenkai Power got boring after 199 episodes) and the BGM was changed for the better (again, too much repetition). And the Buu arc was the first part of the show I saw (on both Toonami and I-channel). Plus, I liked how the Buu arc had its dark moments, but also fun moments as well.

The Buu Arc is the worst bit of manga DBZ, and I would even put it behind the Garlic Jr. Saga in the anime.

It's everything bad (which is everything, basically) about the Androids/Cell Arc, all over again! Oh boy!

Goku: "OH hAY GUISE I CAN GO SSJ3 NOW"
Goku: "OH HAY I FORGOT TO MENTION the FUSION SRY LAWL"
Goku: "OH SNAP IT LOOKS LIKE WE UNFUSED IN BUUS STOMACH...WHAT A TWIST!11"
Supreme Kai: "OH HAY U DON'T NEED A DANCE U CAN FUSE WIT the EARINGS AND IT LASTS FOREVER SO YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO KILL BUU...ISNT THAT CONVENIENT!?"

Its just small little excuses to move the story along. Once in awhile these types of things are fine but when you do it 4+ times in the same story it just looks lazy.
