Back in 1995, he was well known for his voice acting work in SF 2: The movie where he played Ryu. Below is a sample clip of his voice acting skills.

Anyone think that given his lengthy professional career in voice acting ( since he started in 1981) that he could been a good choice had Sean Schemmel not been around. Hank has the very tough, brave commanding hero voice which fans had gotten accustomed to with the ocean dub version of goku and is able to tone it down a little to be more laid back and easy going when the need arises.
Do you guys think he could have made for a great goku voice actor?

Yes
He sounds alright to me

.
In Mexico we have always had only two voice actors for Goku, one for when he is a child (Laura Torres) and one since the TKB when he married Chichi (Mario Castañeda).
Dub industry was "stable" due to hollywood movies and sitcoms coming from USA but People like Jose Antonio Macias and Mario Castañeda knew how to take advantage of anime and consolidated their careers thanks to it.
I can see the struggle for you guys having different gokus. I wish you the best and a nice cast in the future.
