Dragon Ball GT Ending; Moving or Depressing?

Re: Dragon Ball GT Ending; Moving or Depressing?
Depressing, to me it was very heavily implied that Goku had left all of his family and friends behind forever. In my mind, as much as Goku loves fighting , he wouldn't do that.
The other depressing aspect was that GT never really felt consistent with Z , and by the end of the series that was still the case.
I didn't need air tight story or characterisation, there was plenty of 'just go with it' moments in DBZ but certain things just felt so off that they couldn't even fool me as a kid.
I think it'd have been better if it was left more ambiguous and Goku didn't say goodbye to anybody and didn't say anything to Vegeta. It leaves a lot more up to the imagination as to what could have happened. We don't know the ending to everything in life and not everything gets tied up in a perfect knot.
I don't hate GT , but it leaves a lot to be desired.

That's one area where i have to admit that the OG manga/Z's ending did it better, because abrupt though the latter was there it wasn't Goku going away forever never to return like it's implied in GT when Goku is going wherever the hell with Shen Long.Depressing, to me it was very heavily implied that Goku had left all of his family and friends behind forever. In my mind, as much as Goku loves fighting , he wouldn't do that.
DB collection related goals as of now:
1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)
2.) Collect rest of manga
3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

It's a clear but still ambiguous ending. The clear part is he made a deal in order to save everyone and he has to leave. It doesn't say where, though. It does leave a lot to the viewer's imagination.Beerus wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:56 pm Depressing, to me it was very heavily implied that Goku had left all of his family and friends behind forever. There's a tiny bit of ambiguity , he doesn't say he's not coming back.ABED wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:04 pmIt's a clear but still ambiguous ending. He says his goodbyes, he tells Vegeta to look after Earth, he goes out his way to visit piccolo in hell (which is just still really weird),says his goodbyes to krillin and master roshi, and the weird thing where the dragon balls went into his body. It was a big goodbye. It wasn't a deal either, Goku just went with Shenron.
Just my thoughts and the way I see it, could be just me

Why would he go with Shen Long if it weren't a deal? He gets the time he needs to destroy the last of the Evil Dragons and then agrees to leave with the Dragon Balls to wherever Shen Long takes him. Anyway, I'm still not sure what your issue is with him being able to say his goodbyes, if you don't mind me asking.

There is a theory that Goku was dead in the finale. It's implied through Goku's appearance at the Tenkaichi Budokai 100 years later, as well as in the GT special that he is always there in spirit though. For a character that had become so iconic by the time GT ended I'm 1997 it's a rather hopeful thought that Goku becomes some sort of a God through his union with Shenron and the Dragon Balls watching over everyone and believing that the Earth will be in good hands through his descendants.Beerus wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:56 pm Depressing, to me it was very heavily implied that Goku had left all of his family and friends behind forever. Sweet. That's cool. Better than "Generic Background Music #54" like they did for the dub.

I'll have to rewatch it again when I get chance , but I was under the impression Goku didn't necessarily have to go with Shenron.ABED wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 5:54 amWhy would he go with Shen Long if it weren't a deal? EDIT: I was thinking of the dub.In the sub Shenron seems a little more direct , I'll definitely give you that.

That's a cool theory , I definitely prefer the ideas discussed in that video.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:14 amThere is a theory that Goku was dead in the finale. Re: Dragon Ball GT Ending; Moving or Depressing?
Mostly it was confusing
We were in a state of disbelief, specially in mexico they had been running dragon ball, dragon ball Z and DBGT non stop from 1992-2000 and we were like "what? is it over really?" "what the heck are we gonna watch now?"
and seeing goku absorbing the dragon balls was confusing so it was a generalized state of shock, and consider the fact that we were like 12 years old
