Blu ray to mkv for preserving?

Post by SaiyanLives » Sat Oct 08, 2022 7:44 am

Hey guys,
Got a quick question i got the entire show coming my way on blu ray and i was thinking when i get them if i should rip them from blu ray to mkv so i can watch the mkv files and keep the disks stored away..
I'm a very ocd careful person as is,
what if I'm just really careful with the disks ,converting them to mkv is just a waste of time?
I heard blu rays are very durable so if I'm very careful i dont even need to do this?
Id rather just watch the disk i heard if you copy from blu ray mkv there will be SOME quality loss?
And it takes so much time to do this

So yea just treat them normal and itll last many years?
Sorry for the weird question
I just want to keep them in best shape possible for as long as possible :)

Anyway excited to watch the show again been years!
Anyone currently watching anything?

You can rip them if you want, just be aware Blu-Ray discs contain 25-50GB of data, so investing in external hard drives could end up being really expensive.

Keep the discs in their cases, away from direct sunlight and humidity and they should last a very long time, if not outlast us all.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Good idea i wont bother with ripping then I'm a careful person haha...
I noticed after inspecting the discs under a direct lamp i noticed slight scratches on them they are hard to notice only at certain angles but they are there ,the worst one is one disc with a very thin hairline scratch about half in inch maybe less its not deep and hard to see still and does not effect playback but how is that possible they were all sealed!
I think ill keep them i heard that these marks are very common and if i exchange it its possible i can get scratched ones again and maybe worse this time so i wont take the chance.
Did some googling its all over not just 30th anni sets but also db super boxset hmm
Kno anything about this??
