The TV channel that trolled every DB Fan

Most people don't know this but in Mexico we only have two TV stations for "open TV": Televisa and TV Azteca and all of the others are paid TV (cable, satellite etc) some universities also would have a channel but they can only show their own material or toddler shows and other educational programming. Which means in the 90s and early 2000s, basically before the internet and cable services became cheaper we did not really have much shows to watch XD

So Canal 5 (Channel 5) was in Televisa and they got the rights for Dragon Ball and it quickly became a people's fave.

But EL 5 performed pure torture on us. Specially during dragon ball Z: They would air dragon ball normally and then one day ramdomly they would re start the series... all the way from the Radditz Saga, episode 1!... we watched the namek infamous 5 minutes fight HUNDREDS of times. And I guess what really got into our nervs was the fact that there was no logic or trend or explanation on WHY THE *$@&% would they do that!?

To illustrate that feeling in a better way, please watch this video, it is spoken in spanish but please skip to minute 03:07 to minute 03:55 and watch that short animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U81Mh0My9Sk

Somehow that made us appreciate the show more, which is why it is well known many guys would miss work, school and other important stuff whenever there were brand new episodes.

Is there any other country in the world in which that happened?

PS.
As a funfact you should know we got censorship for fart and sexual jokes but never for violence, I guess a country with the cartel can't really complain about blood...Also there was no dragon ball on days that there was an important soccer match in the mexican league or a national team game.

The explanation for that I think was that the dubbing was done in batches of episodes, when it was released the first time only the first 60 episodes were dubbed, so they had to repeat them again until the next batch was finished.

Another curious thing is that they used the third version of the first opening in the dubbing, so many were spoiled about Goku and Vegeta Super Saiyan, Future Trunks, Mecha Freezer, etc...

They also used We Gotta Power and We Are Angels in the Gohan and Trunks special a year before the Majin Buu saga was released, so they also spoiled part of that saga.

This is almost definitely a Toei thing and not the fault of the dubbing company. They did the same to Pioneer with Sailor Moon S giving them the third opening from the beginning spoiling a number of things from the second half like the character of Hotaru, Sailor Moon's upgrade to Super Sailor Moon, Chibi Usa returning as Chibi Moon, and Pluto coming back to join up with Neptune and Uranus.

I'm pretty sure Funimation also originally only received the third version of Head Cha La for the tv series since that's the one they ended up taking some footage to use for Rock the Dragon; Vegeta turning Super Saiyan in space, Trunks jumping up ready to slice Freeza in half with his sword, and the final group shot with Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta as part of the team.

Well, here in Argentina, it happened a LOT when it was first aired (late 90s) on this defunct local channel called Magic Kids.

Here's a thread discussing about it:

A little too late but yeah, I've been officially active in Kanzenshuu for ten years :)
